Filgrastim Injection 2

Hi all
I started my first cycle of chemo on Tuesday 5th. My first injection of Filgrastim was fine no problem at all. With the 2nd I suffered awful hip and leg ache but paracetamol managed to get me through. However, tonights was horrific. It started with period-like pains and then progressed into what I can only describe as birth contractions at their worst. I felt like my body was being ripped apart.(Sorry to be so graphic) I really couldn’t cope with the pain so I went to A and E as I couldn’t get through to my rapid response number. I was given stronger pain medication that worked brilliantly. I was just wondering if anyone has had similar symptoms and what they have done to get them through it. Thanks

Hi Sindy,
So sorry to hear that you are having a hard time with treatment.
Yes, I started getting my reaction towards my last round of EC chemo (I had 4). The pain was in my back (it took my breath away) I also couldn’t get hold of the emergency team and I ended up staying in hospital because of it. Speak to your care team before your next round as there are alternatives available. I asked to stop as I couldn’t cope with it.
I hope you can find a solution as I know what you are going through.
Sending love and hugs.

Hi
Chemo 2 and injections gave me hip, lower back and femur aching which almost prevented me getting down stairs or at times walking without grimacing

I took codeine (prescribed) at night and injected at night after that as instructed by chemo team and that really helped with subsequent rounds
Good luck

Hi Sindy5, I went through chemo from September 2022 to January 2023.
I found lots of past comments from this Forum about how taking ‘Clarityn’ helped minimise bone pain from the Filgrastim injections.
I ran it by my Oncologist before my chemo started and he was fine with my taking it.
I took 1 Clarityn tablet 30mins before giving myself the Filgrastim injection.
I did get some bone pains in my legs, hips and back but they were bearable.
I took the Clarityn from the beginning of my chemo so can’t comment on whether my pain would have been worse without it.
Always discuss any additional medications with your Oncologist first to see if they would be happy for you to try it and to make sure it is safe for you to take if you are on other medications or have other health conditions.

Sending kindness and wellness vibes your way 🫶🏼

Hi Sindy
It was a few years ago that I took those injections but the first time I took them - I nearly went to A&E as I thought I was having a heart attack. The pain and pounding came from my breast plate area - and pelvis - apparently this is the area where the bone marrow is making the new white blood cells. But knowing that calmed me down next time. The anti histamine - sounds like a good shout.
