Finding a comfortable bra ?

Hi , following my lumpectomy in Feb this year I’m really struggling to find a comfortable bra ! My boobs are so different in size following surgery and I still have a little swelling on the side of my chest ( operation side ) I must have spent a fortune on different kinds of bras and find the training style is probably the most comfortable but doesn’t give much support ! Any suggestions please x

Hi Susie,

Like you I struggled for months to find a decent bra post lumpectomy and SNB. I don’t know where you’re based, but Guy’s Hospital in London has a specialist bra shop on site. They’re incredibly helpful and their bras are reasonably priced. Perhaps your local hospital or cancer clinic can advise you where to find a similar service? In the end I got so frustrated that I actually treated myself to a very expensive bra from Rigby and Peller - the lady doing the fitting was brilliant and I’ve now got the most comfortable bra ever (I decided to ignore this particular item on my credit card bill ). But back to Guy’s. It might be worth checking if they offer any phone or online service. The lady in charge came to my Moving Forward course last year and was incredibly knowledgeable. She seemed to have a solution for any size/shape, and was lovely.

I had a lumpectomy in November 2019. Haven’t worn a bra since. I was only a B cup, now a bit lobsided.

I was self conscious at first, now I love not wearng one. It’s quite liberating, and very comfortable.

It is hard enough before being in lockdown to find any bra before surgery anyway. I have several from Sainsbury. They have a twin pack with  prosthesis pockets inside around £16 and also do a zip front one -again with pockets. Search Tu post surgery bra. Some bigger stores have them, I did click and collect .

When I had my mammogram there was a poster for bra fitting service so as said before your breast care nurse could probably advice you locally

I have felt exactly the same had my wide local incision and sentinel node removal in July and getting fitted for a bra that isn’t painful has been a nightmare, pandemic not helping ofcourse! I am 38GG and now I reckon my right breast is at least three cup sizes smaller, I feel really wonky for want of a better word, but the most comfy bra I have found is front fastening from m&s coat £20 I have an appointment next week to have some kind of insert fitted so hopefully that will help a bit xx

Hi,

I’ve been using Marks and Spencer’s non-wired bralettes since my lumpectomy surgery (approx 25% breast tissue removed on one breast). Initially with swelling they were similar sizes, but now one is a bit smaller that the other! Because my scar from the surgery is in the fold where a bra would normally rest, I’ve avoided that sits there. The bralettes rest a bit lower, there’s a nice choice in M&S and there’s no back fastening if you struggle reaching round post op. I find they provide plenty of everyday support (I’m a D cup) but I’d need something stronger if I was going to do any jumping about!

Not sure if this helps?! But good luck on your quest to find the perfect bra!

I was advised by my breast care nurse to use the cotton one from M&S Product code T227024 2pk cotton non wired full cup brace A-E.  The link is here… marksandspencer.com/2-pack-non-wired-full-cup-plunge-bras-a-e/p/clp60437721?intid=mobile_app_pdp_share

I also got a pack of extenders too.

Hope that helps.
