First Appointment With Oncologist. What happens?

Hello everyone

Tomorrow my mum will have her first appointment with the oncologist.

The letter I received from the surgeon said that the MDT said she will have neoadjuvent chemotherapy first and than once completed to refer back to surgeon for breast surgery.

Every appointment I feel so anxious, can anyone tell me what happens on that day and what to expect on first appointment with the oncologist.

Thanks

Dear sshini,

Thinking of you, and your dear mum, i can remember my 1st oncology appointment, she was a lovely lady who introduced herself by her 1st name which I found extremely relaxing.

Please try not to worry to much (easy for me to say) they will cover mums treatment plan with you both, hopefully dates when treatment will start.

Take one day at a time, maybe make some notes as there is so much to take in.

Wishing mum well, with health and happiness ahead. Please come back and let us know how you are getting on

With the biggest hugs Tili :rainbow::pray::rainbow::pray:

Hi, hope your mum is doing okay. It is a very anxious time for everbody.
I had my follow up 3 weeks after my lumpectomy and was given an appointment with the oncologist 2 days later as it has spread to first lymph node. My oncologist just explained that I would have radiotherapy and gave me tons of information. It was just a chat - no tests or examination.
Hope that helps.
Best wishes xx

Thank you @poorlyboob @Tili :slightly_smiling_face: I am so glad I found this forum, it really helps me so much and feel also better reading everyone’s advises and experiences.

Ok thanks I will try to take someone with me and also take some notes too. I think once I know the treatment plan, I will feel bit better. Now my next anxious and worry feeling I will experience is how my mum would feel after chemo and shaving her hair slowly, she got type 2 diabetes. I suffer from anxiety and panic attack so it’s a lot to take in. Otherwise my mum is doing well, no other symptoms apart from lump not too big and pain on and off not extreme. Near her armpit

Thank you will definitely update

Same with my mum, it went to her axillary lymph nodes. 6 of them are affected. Really worried. Lump is 6cm. So that’s why neo chemo and surgery after
