Just back from meeting the ‘wig lady’ at hospital - she’s lovely and is ordering me a fabulous wig. I hope she’ll get it in early next week because my hair will be long gone by then. Meanwhile, I have a very elegant black scarf which she showed me how to tie. I’m thinking of getting a couple of close friends round for a ‘shave Cat’s hair off’ party…
Hi Cat, and all
Glad the wig appointment went well… my wig arrived from USA today… luckily in an unmarked box! it will be lovely when it grows! seriously is a great colour… but just tooooo much hair on top so will take to my hairdresser for a trim :o) still not sure how I will get on with it… but my sons (12 and 15 have had fun trying it on… they make very pretty gilrs!) I have bought a lovely crochet hat from my fav shop Esprit! plus a few other hats and scarves… but hair still there… but only day 8 now… in need of a trim/colour really but thinking why waste £100+ at Toni and Guy!
I didn’t make it to the Reading forum… as the change of my 1st chemo due to Pharmacy being closed for a week (training week) making my 1st only 4 days before forum… and wasn’t sure how I would feel… luckily I didn’t go … as I had that “Bulldozer” day Saturday… but have been told the next in South/South East will be Norwich in March… so perhaps will make that one…
Hi girl
I’ve been away from this forum for a long time - due to feeling great finally and out and about!!! went for a meal out, shopping, driving to school… I hope everybody is better this week, no sickness…Cat and Lorna, well done for getting a wig - are you losing hair already? Mine is still there - including body hair, which I’m gutted about. If there was one tiny good thing about this chemo was losing facial and body hair - and I’m still vaxing my mustache!!!
On a more serious note, I can afford to be active only because my mum is staying with me and doing everything for me! I couldn’t deal with housework, childcare, working, visitors at the same time.
How is everybody else doing? Does every day seem much longer than 24 hour when you are suffering from side effect and too short when you are feeling fine? I have this little calendar and the best part of the day is ticking one more day off…
Take care,
Tato
Tato - so glad you’re feeling better! Lucky you having your mom staying to help. Mine is staying to take my son off my hands for a couple of hours a day, but she’s nearly 80 so I find that she’s no help with housework, cooking, cleaning, and so on. My husband is worse than useless. I owe you an e-mail, promise to get to it later this evening!
…and there I was thinking that it didn’t matter if I didn’t hoover etc…I must look after myself, rest etc etc
This morning I took my son to school and left my bowl of muesli on the worktop uneaten. I came back to discover a MOUSE sitting in the bowl eating my breakfast!!!
After the inevitable shock (although we do live in an old house in the country and have had the odd one in before) I’ve spent all day ‘catching up’ with the housework!! Everywhere’s been hoovered, surfaces anti-bac’ed etc so hopefully I’m now off the hook again for a while which will be just as well as I’m knackered!
Needless to say Mickey has now been dispatched to cheesy heaven. Sorry to all vegans etc but I can’t have them breeding all over the place and eating my breakfast before me!
A tired Bella x
Bella…You crack me up! Moose in the hoose…get those marigolds on girlfriend and splash that bleach!!!
OMG doesn’t all this make you put things into perspective. Do we really care about housework and starching our table cloths any more…who gives a s**t. I was your live Hyacinth Bouquet but now (though still a bit of a clean freak) I really couldn’s lose sleep over a messy house anymore. In fact, OH found slugs on the kitchen floor over the weekend…urgh!
Would I have said this 3 months ago…NEVER…would have been on the phone to Rentokil and Mollymaids!
Great to hear about that Mouse! And the responses, brought a smile to my face as i feel a bit weird having come back this afternoon from my first chemo (FEC). Thanks for being cheerful and amusing about that ongoing task of housework, we must all keep things in the right perspective as we go through this wonderful chemo!!!
Thanks
Hannah
Hi Hannah - how are you feeling today after your first FEC? If you’re anything like me, you’ll be wired because of the steroids. Hope the side effects aren’t too bad for you.
How’s everyone else doing?
Hi - echoing Cat - how’s everyone doing - I am day 9 and feeling so much better than last week. Hope its up and up from here till next cycle.
Tanya x
Hi Cat and Tanya
Had my 1st FEC yesterday and yep I’m buzzing too. Weird cos I expected to feel pants. Did wake up during night with bit of weird taste in my mouth and very oddly a pain in my bottom which ws on and off for about an hour or so. Sounds strange I know felt almost like I needed to go to loo after being constipated for a week.
Glad we all seem to be coping
Cazz x
Hi Cazz, sounds like you’re doing well, no sickness, I hope. The steroids had me on the go like I was on drugs (the class A variety) and it was a feeling I hated. Take care and hope that the side effects aren’t too bad for you.
I’m off for my first FEC tomorrow…feeling calm now but sure the nerves will creep in in the morning.
Glad you are doing well Cazz and everyone else. Back soon to compare notes
Hi ladies
I just had my first FEC on 7th Oct- feel much back to normal now. My doctor said try not to think too much or wait for the side effect- which is so true.
So good luck Pheebster for tomorrow- try to be clam and relaxed as much as you can. Hope all goes well.
take care

Pheebster, you will be fine! Relax as much as you can, make sure your arm is warm so that the veins are easy to access, and it will pass before you know it. We’re all here to support each other so post when you have the time and let us know how you are.
Avonlea, glad you’re back to normal now.
Does anyone have any idea about how to gauge your blood count? I’m worried that even though I feel pretty OK that it may be low and they may postpone the next chemo.
Hi Cat
I am trying bone soups - got some beef bones from local butchers and made a big pot of clear soup. Also I am trying Pheasant , Rabbit, which are on season and low in fat and good in other things.
I am also eating a lot of beans and corns stuff… All in all a very nurtrious diet and at least this makes me feel good
Hope this helps and take care

Thanks Avonlea. I’m vegan so bone soups are out for me! I think it’s a really good idea to go with seasonal produce, though, always tastes so much nicer!
Hi everyone,
Been feeling much better, although tired… and headaches… but it may be that I’m challenging the chemo brain too much as had to get an assignment finished for uni! also dared to have a glass of wine… so still not sure if it’s that that’s causing the headaches?
Day 11… still hair! Got the wig ready tho… and have booked a hair apt to get it cut and any hair on my head on Monday… am feeling “cold” and do have a bit of a runny nose :o( but being healthy… eating veg and fruit! am also forcing 2 teaspoons of Manuka honey down a day… hate honey!
Had to have an Occupational health assessment this week (for Uni) Doc was a bit of an A*s*! saying I should defer this year… and how ill I will be! it really annoys me how people just wrtie you off when having chemo! O to top everything my T**sse* EX stopped my CSA payments! so a good week… LOL … chemo wise yes :o)
Sorry enough grumbling… PMT so mad at the world… (shame that hasn’t given me a break)
Hi everyone - seem’s like we are doing this ok. How did you go with your chemo Pheebster? I feel so much better this week now all the meds to stop the side effects of the chemo have stopped. I hate honey too so haven’t gone there though I probably should!
Feel relieved that the CT results are back and nothing significant.
Take care everyone
Tanya x
Glad your CT results are OK, Tanya, big relief.
Hi Ladies,
Day 11 for me too and feeling great actually, although I’m being careful not to do too much (e.g. hoovering!!! - see my post about the mouse!) so I don’t get too tired as I find it creeps up on me suddenly, usually mid-afternoon.
I don’t think there’s any way to keep an eye on blood counts apart from actually having a blood test. I think it’s sensible to be careful from Days 7-14, which is what I was told, keep healthy and away from anyone who’s obviosly ill if possible, and don’t over do it.
Got my wig today - it’s fab! Better than my real hair so actually quite look forward to wearing it. I walked past my brother in it just now and he didn’t even notice even though he drove me over to the shop to get it and knew I was getting it!
Love to all, Bella x
