I am due my first mammogram since treatment has finished, had WLE and the swelling in my breast had gone down quite a bit, but recently the swelling has come back and is oh so very sore especially near the nipple area and under my arm, will they still want me to have the mammogram I am worried that the pain of having it squashed will just be too much for me at the moment, has anybody else experienced this if so what did they suggest.
hello.
I had the same problem and was advised to take a couple of paracetamol about half an hour before my mammo , i have just had my 3rd one and am still sore not as bad though so i guess it can take quite along time to settle down my onc says it is not unusual.
hope this helps

Hiya
I had my first mammogram since WLE and full lymph node extraction just a week ago and I hadn’t been looking forward to it as was still sore and tender but it honestly was no more sore or uncomfortable than usual, surprisingly! I was disappointed that I have to wait for the results, I had thought that in the circumstances they’d have done it straightaway like they did last year when I was diagnosed. I can’t help wondering if there is still something lurking in there and I keep watching the post for a letter from the hospital. Hopefully it will come within the next few days.
Good luck with your mammogram!

Thank you both for your advise, will certainly go with the paracetamol 1/2hr before hand as that’s probably a good idea, it is so hard to comprehend how sore after a year you can be.
Dae hopefully your mammogram results will be here soon and fingers crossed it is clear, I’m glad your tests were less painful than I’m expecting.
Take care Carole x
I had my first year check up, including mammogram nearly 3 weeks ago, was told I’d get the result in the post “in a few days” but 2 weeks later still nothing so I phoned, eventually told that the result was all clear and that a letter had been sent. It arrived the next day, postmarked the day before. Don’t they realise that we have gone through a year of hell and we need to know that there is nothing left inside?
Anyway, at least I now know and can get on with my life, as I’m doing anyway, it’s becoming a distant memory but when I read or see something on TV about chemo, i feel sick. Hopefully never again!!
