First Mammogram
First Mammogram Hi ladies,
I was just wondering if anyone can tell me when the first mammogram will be, I was diagnosed a year ago and my lumpectomy and gland removal took place on the 17th november 05, i am not due to go to see the consultant again until january, should i phone to see if i can get an appointment or wait until they send me a letter.
Many thanks, love to you all Caroline x
Hi Caroline I was diagnosed at the end of February this year and had the same op as you on 22nd March. I have been told that I will be seen every 6 months for at least the next couple of years, alternately by the surgical consultant and the onc, and that my first mammogram will be twelve months after diagnosis i.e. next February.
I’m not looking forward to it as I have still got a lot of pain and swelling since finishing rads in July and was referred back to the surgeon last week ,who did think about doing a mammogram to find out why - the look of horror on my face must have startled him, as he hurriedly decided to refer me for an ultrasound instead!
It might be worth giving either your breast care nurse or the consultant’s secretary a ring to ask when you can expect a mammogram as the follow up procedures seem to vary according to where you are treated.
Good luck!
Love Nicky x
Hi Caroline
I was diagnosed on 10 November last year and had a mastectomy with immediate reconstruction on 23 November. I had my first check up since treatment finished yesterday…what a relief!
|'ve been told that I need to go back for checks every 3 months. Not sure if that has anything to do with my age, family history or the type of cancer / treatment I had.
My consultant did say that if I am unhappy about anything just to call straight away.
Hope this helps.
