First post-treatment check-up
First post-treatment check-up Hello everybody,
I’m due to have my first post-treatment check-up next week. I finished radiotherapy on Jan 12 and feel inexplicably nervous about returning to hospital after having finished all the treatment. Can anyone tell me what is likely to happen during this check-up? My situation is slightly unusual in that I had my operations and chemo in Sicily and came back to England in Nov 06 for radiotherapy…therefore, bar one meeting prior to rads, I’ve had no relationship with the oncology team at my local hospital. Any info would be great, including advice on what questions I could/should ask…thank you.
Hello Tawny
I finished rads at the beginning of december and had my first check-up with onc on 9th jan. I too was really nervous about going but it was fine. They had a look at my scar, checked the other breast and then asked how i was doing. Have had lots of problems with tamoxifen so we discussed that and really that was it - they didn’t even take any blood ( thank goodness!!! am still a wimp when it comes to needles!!!)
As for what questions to ask, that really is an individual thing. Make a list of whatever you feel you want to ask them and take it in with you - its easy for your mind to go blank when they ask if you’ve any questions!
Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.
By the way, whereabouts in sicily were you? I lived in Mondello, Palermo for 3 and a half years in the early 90’s!!
Take care

Thanks Izzy. I know Mondello well - I was living in Trapani! Gonna get this check up over and done with and then make a decision whether or not to return. xx
