Flexible working

Have been back at work for 4 years. Was initially working 4 days. However, since bad attack of cellulitis asked for this to be reduced to 3 days. My employers were very reluctant - eventually Occ Health supported me thankfully. Now, a year on, they are making it very clear that they want a full time employee. It’s making me really anxious and I don’t really know what to do. Can’t afford to give up.
Any ideas??
Thanks

Hi lewis

Sorry to hear about the cellulitis and the negative impact it has has had on your job. All this must be so worrying for you.

I really don’t know anything much about employment law, but I’m sure there are people here who do and will know what steps you should take. Was your change of hours incorporated into a revised contract?

My only ‘off the top of my head’ suggestion would be that it might be helpful to speak to your local CAB to see where you stand.

I hope you soon get lots of responses.

Lymphoedema really stinks, doesn’t it?

Would your employers consider a job share arrangement? Then they would still have a full time post and you would have the flexibility you need. Your occ health dept would probably support it as a reasonable adjustment under the DDA.
Good luck

Hi Lewis

It sounds like you’re having a tough time with your employers. If you follow this link there is a BCC booklet available on best practice in the work place which you may find useful. It can be found at breastcancercare.org.uk//docs/a5_employ_booklet_0.pdf.

I hope you find this helpful.

Kind regards

Sam (BCC Facilitator)

Thanks for all of this - booklet looks good and am very grateful for all the comments. Have appt with Occ Health soon.
