Flu and Covid jab

I am due to have my Covid and flu jab and am on round two of my chemo treatment plan. Is there a good time to get this done during the 3-week treatment cycle or is any time ok? Didn’t want to affect treatment or make symptoms worse.

I’ve got both on Friday, which will be the end of the 2nd week of my 3 week cycle. I don’t know the answer, but the nurses will advise. In the end I booked mine for the middle week as no-one on my medical team could agree.

Hi footie18

Thanks for your post about the best time to have your COVID and flu vaccinations.

Some people worry that breast cancer treatments such as chemotherapy might lower their immune system, putting them more at risk from infections. Vaccines help your immune system protect you against disease and reduce the risk of becoming seriously ill, but having vaccinations at the right time, particularly as you have already started chemotherapy is important.

We would suggest you speak to your treatment team about the best time for you to have your vaccinations, between your chemotherapy cycles.

Do call our helpline if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions. The helpline team have time to listen, talk things through and signpost you to more support and information if necessary. Your call will be confidential, and the number is free from UK landlines and all mobile networks. The number is 0808 800 6000. If you have hearing or speech difficulties prefix our number with 18001 and the call will go through Relay UK. Our helpline has access to telephone interpreters if language translation is required.

If you would prefer one of our nurses to call you. To do this, please complete this form ticking the box agreeing to a call back .
