Am being a bit thick, am quarter way through my chemo and wondering if people have vaccinations when they are going through treatment. In the past I have always had both vaccinations with no problem as I was a carer, all advice/ insights welcome, obviously i’ll talk to GP surgery but I was just wondering what others have done. x
I was undergoing chemo early 2021 when the first Covid vaccinations became available. I was advised to have it as soon as possible, mid chemo (rather than just before a cycle) just in case I felt al bit rough bi was fine.
Hope all goes well for you x
thanks, I have to have the jab 2 days before my next chemo which is on a Tuesday and I can’t find anywhere that does them on a Sunday… now going to have to change when i have next chemo, it is all such a bloody faff
Hi Mer, I had the jabs during my chemo in 2021 too. There weren’t specific restrictions over time other than not having it directly before a round of chemo. Maybe it depends on how much time you have between infusions, I was on a 3-week cycle. Does it have to be exactly 2 days before chemo, or could you have it a few days earlier instead of delaying chemo?
I was advised to have them during chemo during the week before treatment when my white blood cells and immunity were at their best (I had a 3 week cycle). Not sure jow it works if you have treatment more frequently than that. I would check with your oncology team as everyone is different and it probably depends on what meds you’re on.
I had the flu and covid on Wednesday (am currently on x3 weekly Kadcycla) and it knocked me about hard that night, felt like I a really bad flu. Full body aches and felt feverish (though my temp was fine), I think this season they’re quite strong (flu and covid vax alter every season they go out so you wouldn’t be getting the same vaccination you may have had in the past). I didn’t sleep all night and needed a codeine, whereas when I had them both in the Spring I had no side effects at all.
Hi @Mer I am due round 5 of 6 of Docetaxel Carboplatin and Herceptin. I’ve been advised to wait until after my chemo has finished and not to have the shingles vaccine as it’s a live vaccine. If unsure ask your oncology team they should be able to help you🤞
thanks all, think i’ve got it sorted now x
There is a shingles vaccine which is not live - Shingrex. You have it in two doses. X
