Flying after radiotherepy

Hello everyone, I have a simple question that I would like to know the answer to. To give some background information, my mum has recently had a breast lump removed (it was a tiny lump in the breast) and has been undergoing radiotherapy.

Now, her radiotherapy ends on Monday 6th July and myself and the rest of the family were going to surprise her with a day trip up to Glasgow to see her own mother, father and siblings who she has not seen for some time. I was just wondering if it would be safe to fly two days after completing the treatment? I’m not aware if her doctor has told her anything. Anyway asking her would spoil the surprise now, wouldn’t it?

As you can probably tell, I have virtually no knowledge about things like this, so I apologise if this is common knowledge.

Thank you for any help, please know that it is greatly appreciated.

Hi JamboJack,

If you would like to give the helpline here a ring I’m sure they’ll be able to help you with this question. Calls are free, 0808 800 6000 open M-F 9-5 and Sat 9-2. You could also give the radiotherapy unit at your mum’s hospital a call, tell them what you’re planning and they’ll be able to advise you also.

Kind regards,
Jo, Facilitator
