hi everyone, i have already asked my question really, i would like to know if anyone could give me a rough idea how long it is usually following chemo and radiotherapy before preventative surgery would normally be carried out, i have a family history and personally have been diagnosed twice now, i have had a mx on right side and receiving chemo and will receive radio, but i have asked for a mx on the left side (my surgeon wouldnt perform the two together) so i will have to go back in, i know waiting lists etc delay things but i was just wondering how long it normally takes for your body to recover from the effects of chemo and radio before you are able to have further surgery, any info would be gratefully received love liz xxx
sorry i dont know but bumping it up in the hope someone will answer for you.
Hi Liz…Ive had a bilateral mx risk reducing, had surgery 9 weeks after last chemo, couldnt have rads though as already had chest area treated 24 years ago. I think they like to leave it a while after rads because of healing. Hope ive helped a little.

hi claire, yes thanks for the information, i guess i just wanted to get all the surgery out of the way at once, but my consultant had his reasons for not performing the bi lateral surgery, although i still dont know what they were, with my family history, and waiting braca1 and 2 results i would have thought reducing all the risks should have been top priority, maybe he thought i would want to keep the other breast for some unknown reason, why would i want to do that when i have already had cancer in it, and following rads carnt really feel it anyway??? thanks for sharing your experience, all the best to you love liz xxxxx
