Foot advice needed

Hi,
I have just completed 4 cycles of EC chemotherapy and I’m about to start 4 cycles of Pacxitel (sorry about my spelling) I’ve had various side effects which have been pretty awful but the blisters on my feet, especially my toes are horrendous. This leaves me shuffling around like an old lady when in fact I’m only 53. I have tried to put plasters on and I’m constantly covering them in cream but it just doesn’t help. I’m really struggling with the whole situation now and finding little to make my days bearable. I know it’s tempory and for the greater good but when you’re stuck indoors in January barely able to walk it’s just grim.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated x

Hi reese01

Thank you for your post.

It sounds like a really difficult time for you with the side affects you are experiencing during your chemotherapy treatment.

Like any treatment, EC chemotherapy can cause side effects. Everyone reacts differently to drugs with some people having more side effects than others. We would suggest for you contact your chemotherapy helpline or treatment team for discussion and assessment of the blisters on your feet. They will be able to offer support and advice on how best to manage them. It may be helpful for you to keep a diary of any symptoms you may experience during treatment. You may find wearing soft comfortable footwear helpful but do talk this through with your treatment team first.

It can be frustrating and upsetting not being able to do the things you want to whist undergoing treatment. Talking to someone who has had a similar experience can often be helpful. Our Someone Like Me service can match you with a trained volunteer who’s had a similar experience to you. You can be in touch with your volunteer by phone or email and they can share their personal experiences to answer your questions, offer support or simply listen to how you are feeling.

You can ring the Someone Like Me team on 0114 263 6490 or email them at someone.likeme@breastcancernow.org, so they can then match you to your volunteer. You may also find the monthly chemotherapy threads on our online Forum helpful for some support.

Do call our helpline if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions. The helpline team have time to listen, talk things through and signpost you to more support and information if necessary. Your call will be confidential, and the number is free from UK landlines and all mobile networks. The number is 0808 800 6000, (Relay UK -prefix 18001).

If you would prefer one of our nurses to call you. To do this, please complete this form ticking the box agreeing to a call back.

Our usual opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm and 9am -1pm on Saturday.

Out of hours you can leave a message and we will call you back when we next open.

Best wishes

Stephanie
