For those who had chemo first, when did your surgery planning start?

Hi there,

I’m due to start chemo on Monday and was told I would go back to the breast clinic to see the surgeon about 4-6 weeks before the end of chemo, to start surgery planning (March/April time). I had a phonecall late this afternoon from the breast clinic saying the MDT had met and agreed for me to be seen sooner by the surgeons back at the breast clinic, they happen to have a cancellation for first thing in the morning.

*Panic stations*

Why has the plan changed?! I haven’t seen my breast MRI results yet but I’m guessing they have - what have they seen?! Could it be because I have some excema-like sore patches on my breast now that weren’t there when I was at the breast clinic originally? Have they decided something is suddenly more urgent?!

I took the appointment because I’m pretty sure I’m going to be unwell on chemo and didn’t want to put it off, but the hurry means I’ve got to go on my own now.

Anyone else had a ‘surgery planning’ appointment brought forward like this???

Thank you.

I think we’ve all had appointments moved at one point or another and it’s usually because exactly what you were told. A cancellation occurred and they are fitting you in that spot instead of making you wait. I wouldn’t read anymore into it than that and good news is no more waiting. You’ll know things once and for all tomorrow and can put it aside to focus on chemo for Monday. I wish you so much luck and good will. I’ve been there, so many of us have, and it’s doable. Not fun but it can be managed. Just try to distract one more night.
