A few weeks ago I found a lump in my breast, it feels like a marble under the skin. I got it checked at the doctors who is referring me on to a specialist for further testing. Obviously I am worried, but now I am not sure if I am thinking there are additional problems that is making me feel it might be more sinister or whether I am just worrying myself silly.
I am excessively thirsty for any drink that is ice cold straight from the fridge, today already I have gone through 3 litres of pure orange juice, 4 bottles of water and 2 cans of diet pepsi. I dont seem to be needing to run to the loo often which is suprising me considering how much I am drinking. I am also just generally feeling low, tired and niggly little pains. But like I say I am not sure if these may also be signs of cancer or if it is just stress/worry.
Another question which I know will probably be the last thing people will think of if they are diagnosed with cancer is can you still work if you are diagnosed with it? How long is it before treatment takes its toll? I have just passed my PCV licence with a local bus company and I am now a bus driver and I am loving it, I am so worried that if I am diagnosed with cancer it will mean I have to give this up, is this necessarily so?
I did go into work on Friday and spoke to my post test trainer who has been absolutley fantastic as I was worried about the needing time off for the appointment with me being new to the job and he put my mind at ease.
I just have so many worries and concenrs right now.
You seem so worried like us all when we find a lump, you have come to the right place on this forum where you will find most of us has been there, now here to support you.
Please STOP drinking orange juice plenty off water is a better idea.
I am no doc, just wondering if you stopped sugary drinks it might help.
I can only say for myself after biopsy, surgery, my breast is painful and sore several weeks after, you may not go down that road of ops,
not every lump is positive there is several things that can go wrong with our breast
my insion side of breast another further up toward arm pit it really depends on your stamina,
i am sure there will be other ladies who can help you more with driving problems, you are advise after surgery to take it easy.
In addition to the help and support you have here I am posting a link to the BCC information page ‘Worried about breast cancer’ where you will find services and information which you may find helpful at the moment such as the ‘Referral to the breast clinic’ publication and our helpline:
Well done for getting your lump checked out - did you tell your GP about your other symptoms?
Hope you get on OK at the breast clinic. Being in the ‘waiting room’ is horrid, but it’s worth bearing in mind that 9 out of 10 breast lumps are benign.
Don’t get ahead of yourself - until you know what, if anything, you are dealing with, it is all speculation. The ‘what ifs’ can drive you mad - and at the moment there are too many to even try and start answering your question about working. Take a deep breath - keep taking deep breaths - don’t google (too much rubbish and scary stuff - ask on here if you have any questions), and don’t keep prodding yourself until you are sore.
Might be worthwhile asking your gp if the can do a blood or urine test for diabetes.
Having cancer wont stop you driving a bus long term but will mean you would need gime off for recovery from surgery and treatment… However lets hope that is not the case as you are more likeley not to have breast cancer as most lumps are benign, but you might have to take off a day or two if you need a biopsy.
Good morning Joyous
I totally agree with everything Lulu said. Nine out of ten lumps are benign and not cancerous nor will they become a cancer. I would however recommend a trip to your GP re your need to drink so much…that as Lulu says can be a sign of early diabetes.
I hope very much that you will have a cyst or fibroadenoma, both very common causes of breast lumps and not cancerous. It is a really worrying time and you will need lots of hugs.if they do a biopsy you should be ok the following day. In fact I drove home happily after mine .
I hope all goes well and don’t forget to get that thirst investigated
