Found a lump in my right breast

Hi All,

I am a regular checker of my breasts due to having done various campaigns about the signs of Breast Cancer and how important it is to check and tonight I have found a lump in my right breast that feels quite big. I’ll try and get to the GP if I can even get an appointment.

I obviously know that most are breast cancer but my grandma had it so it sets your mind racing. Don’t want to let anyone as they will all start to worry. Nervous about going to the doctors on my own though.

Any advice?

thanks

Hi Abigail ,welcome to the forum .You obviously know that most breast lumps are not sinister nevertheless your GP may well refer you to the breast clinic as without further tests he /she can only have an educated guess at what the lump is .Have you someone you can talk to and go with you to the appointment -it’s very hard take Have this worry on your own .Jill.

Horrible having it hanging over you over Christmas .Hopefully you will get an appointment sooner than 2 weeks .Let us know when you get your appt through .Jill.

Hi Abigail ,it depends on what they see whether they can tell you on the day what’s going on .Often it’s very straightforward - they do mammogram and /or ultrasound and that shows that lump is clearly benign so you are given all clear ,if the lump looks suspicious they will tell you that ,but they will need to do biopsy on the day to confirm that and you have to wait about a week for results .Sometimes they are not sure what they are looking at until the biopsy results come back.Jill.
