I am 32 years old. A couple of montha ago i thought my breast wasnt mormal but maybe it was hormone related, so left it for a few weeks. I then checked it a couple weeks ago & this time it had really changed. My left breast which is normaly smaller then my right was a cup size or more bigger, hard/thick in touch & my nipple was itchy.
I went to the doctor & she could feel a coupe of lumps, which scared me more then i thought. I thought id be going to get it checked at the local hospital but my doctor whats me to wait 4 weeks & come back to see her before she sends me for a mammogram.
Is this a good thing that she feels these lumps can be left?
Since last week i am getting pain under my breast, in my armpit, neck & shoulder. Is this me just stressing?
Sorry for being a pain, i now that alot of peaple are going though worse then me. I lost my mum to cancer 5 years ago & its just me & my 2 kids (13/8) which i cant talk to about this.
It is possible that your doctor thinks it might be something that will tend to resolve itself over 4 weeks. Most lumps are not breast cancer. Did the GP say what she thought it might be?
On the other hand, I don’t think it would be unreasonable if you phoned or saw your GP and asked if you could be referred sooner because of your reasonable fears. You are not being a pain; you are being sensible.
Of course I hope it is not cancer and will either resolve itself or can be treated easily.
I think that you should go back to your Gp & insist on a referral straight away.
It is more than likely that all is normal but why should you have the anxiety of not only a 4 week wait but then possibly another 2 weeks till you are seen.
Am pretty sure that guidelines say that anyone presenting with lumps, bumps etc in their breasts has to be referred to Breast Care Clinic & be seen within 2 weeks of the date of the referral.
Welcome to the BCC forums, in addition to the valuable support you have here please feel free to call our helpline where you can talk through your concerns with one of our team. the line is open 9-5 weekdays and 9-2 Sat on 0808 800 6000.
I agree with the others. I would ask for an urgent referral as 4 weeks is a long time to wait before even being referred when you’re worried.
Most lumps do turn out to be benign and I hope that is the case for you. Elinda x
Thank you all, i just feel stupid about going t the doctor again & it turning out to be nothing. the 1st appointment i can get is next tuesday so thats 2 weeks after my 1st visit. i will post the out come.
Hi Karen
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 09.I first went to my Drs on the 27th April with a thickening in my left breast, he said he was not concerned and advised me to leave things until I had had another menstrual cycle. I did this and went back about 5-6 weeks later. Once again he said he was not concerned, but on my insistance he agreed to refer me to the hospital but only as a non-urgent case. Ten weeks later I went to the hospital for a fine needle biopsy. The consultant there also told me that he was not clinically concerned and that he would arrange an appointment for a mamogram as a non-urgent case. Three weeks later… I rec’d a letter requesting that I attend for a mamogram and US in both breasts, as the results came back as suspicious. I was eventually told by yet another Dr that I did have cancer and would need a mastectomy.
I ended up having a quadrantdectomy in Aug 09 but unfortunately it had spread to my lymph nodes (2/11). I am totally convinced that this was due to the delays in my diagnosis.
So ladies if you feel something isn’t quite right with your body PLEASE take control and insist on things being dealt with ASAP, afterall its your body and no one knows it as well as you do.
Wishing you the very best Karen, I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Please insist on an emergency appointment if only to allay you fears.
Big hugs

I have to say I agree and get it done quicker, it is a long time to wait to worry and get yourself (understandably) in more of a state.
I have practically identical symptoms to you and got my appointment tomorrow morning, my GP refered me only last week so I have been lucky but I am still anxious so can understand as others on here, what your feeling. Its your body and us women tend to know whats going on with them more than anyone!! Good luck x
Hi,
not sure if you can manage the cost but I went privately for the dx rather than wait 2 weeks and went the next day. I was told there and then that I had Bc in in one visit. It was not really really expensive, about £350 but a few years back. I just rang the local private hospital and referred myself and asked the likely cost over the phone. Sorry if this is not a possibility for you and good luck

don’t feel stupid about going and finding that there’s nothing, that’s what tests are for!
This is not like complaining about a faulty dress or sending a meal back, this is your body and you don’t get another one! It’s easy to let doctors intimidate you but try not to let this happen - they are just people doing their job, which at the end of a day is providing a service to you, which you pay for in your National Insurance contributions, they are not doing you a favour!
I completely agree with the rest of them. Call your surgery, ask for an emergency appointment which you should get today or tomorrow, and insist on being referred to the breast clinic. That way, it’s much quicker that you get the all clear we’re hoping for.
Don’t even think about worrying that you’re wasting someone’s time if it turns out to be nothing. You’re concerned now, and getting it seen to straight away is what is needed.
in total agreement with what has already been said. You should be seen by the breast clinic within 2 weeks of referral. I would insist, your GP however good is not an oncologist.
