Freaking out with fear!

I had another post I made about my young daughter being dx with breast cancer and I was awaiting appt over worries that my lobular bc had come back.

So had the three step tests yesterday. I have two lumps one on scar line where it was before and one further into breast. I’d been concerned about the area around sternum/chest wall which had become red and lumpy. On ultrasound they said there was a lot of scar tissue there. Then all went quiet and ended up with a second and a third person having a look. Good job I’d taken a lorazepam! So they said I need an urgent CT scan to see what it is and if there’s any further spread. Told me to expect a phone call anytime! I’m so worried that I won’t be able to support my daughter through this or even if I’m gonna be around. My mind is castraphising! Haven’t told her this bit yet till I know more. Anyone been in similar situation?

Hi,

So sorry that you’re in this situation. I’ve been following your story on this forum. It seems so unfair that both you and your young daughter are going through this. I can’t imagine how you’re coping with it all - and you are coping, believe me. You’re going through the investigations which as we all know is the worst time. Catastrophising is entirely normal. Try to hang onto what you know to be true at the moment-

There is a lump/lumps which needs investigating. The medical team don’t know what it is , hence the 3 opinions in the room during your scan. They have decided to do a CT scan to get more information. That doesn’t mean it’s bad news, it just means they don’t know what they’re looking at yet. ( I was a NHS consultant for 27 years and had this conversation many times.)

The other fact is that treatment for BC has come on leaps and bounds and is very individualised. It’s very likely that both you and your daughter will be here for each other and for the foreseeable future.

Apps like headspace are very good when you start spiralling and wake up in the middle of the night.

Sending big hugs and positive vibes.

Hi Annie

Thanks so much for reaching out to me, it’s so appreciated during this scary time. Cancer has unfortunately reared its head a few times. My first with said daughter I was feeding in a waiting room to be told I had malignant melanoma. To her dear Dad being taken by cancer and a year later my own diagnosis. I have fought and hoped it was all behind us but no it rears it’s head again. Not just recurring with me but at such a young age for her. She is my priority for sure to support her and get her through this but what timing for my own to make an appearance again. I could accept the two lumps they found but the uncertainty of the other area and the need for urgent ct sent me over the edge. Thank you for sharing your experience that the ultrasound wasn’t clear and they need the ct scan to show more. I just want to be able to support my daughter in this horrible journey at such a young age without enduring it worrying about me or even me not being here.

I expect I will get the ct call this week and can only hope it’s not bad news. I know it’s back in the breast with two lumps but this chest area mystery is giving me bad vibes.

Daughters results from mri Monday and hopefully nothing new showing up.

Thank you again xx

Hi Bluebell,

You’ve definitely had more than your fair share of dealing with cancer and the associated trauma. So sorry to hear about the loss of your partner as well.

Sending massive hugs and hoping that the CT turns out to be ok. If there is something there then it can be treated and there are new drugs being developed all the time.
