Free Post surgery support pillows

Hi

I have 2 of these pillows. A friend kindly made these for me and so reluctant to throw them out, but time to move on. They have never been next to skin directly, always a top between.

Good support immediately after surgery, especially in the car.

Would be happy if someone can use them. No charge and happy to post them out for free to UK.

Thanks

Hi, how are you doing

That’s a really kind thing to do.

I’m having a Mastectomy on the 4th February, do you think these would benefit me?

I’m planning on getting some form of cushion for the car journey home etc and would be happy to pay for these or donate more to breast cancer now if you think these would help me.

@SueDerb

I think I have just managed to private message you. If not, let me know.

They’ll be very helpful. You need a pillow under your arm and another to go under the seatbelt. X

Thank you @mrsjelly that’s really useful to know. I will send @bordercat a message to say I’d really appreciate them.

I hope you are well x

If you’re too late I’ve got some that I could send to you. X

That’s very kind @mrsjelly but I will be receiving these ones. Hopefully I can pass mine on in the future. You are all very kind.

Have you had a mastectomy @mrsjelly ?

Thank you x

@mrsjelly - I’m having a mastectomy (left side) and full node clearance - I’d be very grateful for your pillows please.

Can I ask - how long is realistic to be able to drive afterwards ? I am having radiation 4 - 6 weeks afterwards and I’d like to drive myself?

Hi @anim4l

I had double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. Sentinel nodes removed in both breasts but not axillary node clearance. It means II can’t comment on how sore you may feel under your armpit.

I saw the surgeon for my pathology results and wound reviews 17 days post op. They were happy for me drive so long as I felt competent and could do an emergency stop. You should be fine for your radiotherapy

It is imperative to do your exercise to stop cording, reduced range of movement in the arm a frozen shoulder down the line. Plus you will need to keep the arm above your head.

Email me your contact details and I can put the pillows in the post. Also I found a V shaped pillow was a godsend at night x

Thanks so much - it’s reassuring that I should be able to drive myself to radiation - it’s difficult to get lifts during the day as everyone is at work, I’ve messaged you about the pillow - thank you

@anim4l I wish you luck with all your treatment. When are you having the Mastectomy ? I had 23 sessions of radiotherapy first time around and it wasn’t nowhere near as bad as I feared.

As I’m going through a recurrence of Lobular breast cancer I am unable to have radiotherapy again, you can only have it once in the same area, so it’s a simple Mastectomy for me and then Letrozole, unless it changes after the operation.

How are you feeling about having a mastectomy?

@SueDerb - im sorry to hear about your recurrence. I hope your mastectomy goes well. I’m feeling ok about the mastectomy -and have been reassured that the mastectomy itself isn’t particularly painful. More concerned about the full node clearance as I’ve been advised that will be painful …
It’s sad to need this surgery so there is some grief there of course..

Yes, I know what you mean about grief. I can’t wait for the cancer to be removed but I’m not sure how I will be emotionally. Physically I will manage and not worried though.

I’m also worried now that I have a recurrence am I more likely going to have a spread of some sort. I’ve had a CT scan which was clear but I know with Lobular it doesn’t always show up, so I guess I will always have that worry. Sorry, I’m rambling, enough about me.

When is your Mastectomy?

Take care ladies x
