If anything it’s the opposite with me, more puffy and moon faced, although that may have something to do with the awful mouth problems I’ve been having where the only food that seems to taste palatable is crunchie bars!
Hopefully both our problems will resolve once we finish treatment
yes I look pale too - and very pink around the eyes on some days too. I’m heavily into eyebrow pencil now to try to give my face some definition. I’ve had 2 taxotere so far, with 2 more to go, finishing December 17th, so I’m not anticipating tasting much of Christmas lunch this year!
Ladies, I look in the mirror and see my granny looking back at me!!! Well, my granny that was. She died 20 years ago. I’m her!!! Everything tasted of salt when I was on tax, even biscuits when I could eat them. But life does get better, believe me. Most things do still taste of salt but it’s getting better.
Bumping up this topic - Hope thats OK ? I too feel this is trivial , yet its important to us. I’m on FEC , done 4, 2 to go. AFter each chemo, my face gets a new set of deep lines - skin very dry and thin looking, back of hands have aged too. Must take some action to make me feel better - always wear gloves for hand washing and washing up and gardening. Think I’ll treat myself to some good products - that Boots No 7 stuff that had all the publicity. Have been using up creams already have.
Have a fear this is one chemo side effect that will leave permanent effects. Yuk ! still very glad to have done some treatment to give me better chance in future, but in my case, its only helping a small percentage, has to be worth it though, whatever the price. just having a low day. tomorrow will be better.
Anyhow - have a feeling it is chemo in general and not just Tax , and maybe its only older ladies who are more prone to getting more wrinkles - maybe on the cusp of getting them anyway - sorry about that thought !! Up to recently not done that badly now its catching up with me. Best Wishes Kirsty
Hi
I found I was getting dry, flaky patches on my face and seemed to have more wrinkles around the eyes. Went to Boots and changed my moisturiser to the protect and perfect range. At the moment they have a deal on that if you spend over a certain amount (buying the night cream plus one other item) gets a free gift which includes the day cream. I have applied both and within 3 days the dry patches went and the wrinkles are less obvious. The day cream also has a factor 15 suncreen, not that we are getting much sunshine at the moment.
I’m 47 but didn’t want to end up looking 57, so was worth the expense, but if you have a moisturiser range you like then perhaps just going up one age group will do the trick for you.
Make up and earrings also helps me feel more feminine now the hair has gone,
Ali.
In general since my dx in feb, surgery and Chemo (fec/tax) done, I feel I have aged rapidly turning from 45 to what feels like 145!! Lines, the grey fuzz growing back, awful nails is not doing anything to make me feel like my old self. Have started restoration work by using Naturtint, and taking a trip to Boots for some “age-defying” potions! Hope it works…
My facial skin was so dry on TAx that I had to use the Body Shop Hemp Hand Cream - heavy duty stuff for your face but it really worked a treat! My skin was just dry and cracked, I remember looking in the mirror and thinking I had aged about 10 years.
Now that I am off the chemo and being super healthy with my diet my skin has never looked better, so it does impove!
Not on Tax but skin has an aged look about it - as though it has a layer of dried, slightly peeling glue over it. It’s most attractive.
Unfortunately I read on a reputable website (think it was Macmillan) that chemotherapy ages you 10 years. I guess that means skin as well as the rest of our poor bodies.
Hi had chemo but not Tax quite a few weeks after last one I had bits all over the outer edges of my face like bits off a fluffy towel or peeling glue as Jane described took weeks to get rid of and couldn’t get make-up on until I managed to brush/wipe it off. Tried all sorts in the end a Nivea Q 10 moisturiser seemed to do the trick, or perhaps it was settling any way? Had not read the ageing 10yrs on chemo but sounds about right in my case. More BC joys. Love Jackie xx
10 years??? OMG, I feel so much better for knowing that… Might take a little longer than I thought to snap back into shape!
However, knowing that I have done the best I could to knock anything out of my body that shouldn’t be there then it was worth it!
