Full body scan

I’m seeing consultant tomorrow for my results ?
I have heard that they will offer me a full body scan at this appointment and wondered if everyone else has taken this option? Also what sort of scan do they do?

Hi Carole, so sorry you find yourself here, but rest assured you will find some amazing support!

I was not offered a full body scan, I would imagine this would be an option if there is evidence that the cancer is not only in the breast, for example if cells are found in the lymph nodes as well. I did have an MRI as my cancer did not show up on the mammogram due to me having dense breast tissue, so it was to check if there were any other suspicious areas (there weren’t).  Would I have had a full body scan if it had been offered? Probably, just for that extra level of reassurance, but not everyone would want it.

I hope your results are good and easy to treat (as much as can be anyway).  I am sure someone else will be along soon who can advise you you with more information.

Take care.  Michelle xx

Hi Carole, saw my consultant today for the path results from my lumpectomy. Bit of a mixed bag, but no escaping the chemo I’m afraid. Ok earlier, but had a real wobble tonight thinking of the next five months.

I wasn’t ‘offered’, I was told a CT scan would be arranged for me to check that there were no surprises in other parts of my body. This consists of a polo shaped machine. It is not as noisy or distressing as an MRI, but will give a good picture of the breast to stomach area. After this my chemo regime will be planned based on the results. My team, I should add, do not expect any surprises, although 50% of my excised lymph nodes showed positive. S*#t, huh?

Do you think this CT scan is what is planned for you?

Hi Annie sorry it wasn’t all good news for you but stay positive.
It’s just that I know a lady who got diagnosed at same clinic and same time as me although hers was less complicated so she didn’t have more tests like me. The consultant said to her that she could have a full scan but he didn’t really recommend it because it was bound to show up various things and she’d spend the next 18months checking them out. As she is 70 she opted out. I’m 58 and feel I want to check out for other problems. This is not something I take lightly as I have spent the last 4 years having every type of scan, test and procedures including 3,operations.

I’m seeing the same consultant tomorrow, so we’ll see.

Thanks Annie x
