further treatment

Hi all

this is my first post and im not really sure where i’m at

i had a second operation 2 weeks ago to remove my lymph nodes and extra margins around my original cancer which was very small, during my first operation they took 2 lymph nodes which came back pre cancerous and so had the second op to remove the other lymph nodes - they took a further 8 nodes which have all come back clear, i have now been referred to an oncologist to discuss on going treatment i have been told i will definitely have radiotherapy and go on Tamoxifen for possibly 10 years as i am 46 years old but hey said i may also need chemotherapy which i’m really struggling to get my head around as the original cancer was only 16.5 mm and  my lymph nodes were PRE cancerous, they have said that many of the trials have been put on hold due to covid 19 but i may still be able to pay for the oncotype DX test to see weather chemo would work, has anyone else done this?

thanks in advance xx

Hi Maz

My cancer was 15mm, grade 3 stage 1 so no nodes infected, hospital funded oncotype test as they said as I was 39 I was bordeeline, my score came back at 22 so I was offered chemo, then had rads and now on Tamoxifen for 10 years.

Talk to your breast care nurse, my nhs trust would not fund onco tests for people who were adamant that they did not want chemo, tests cost over £2000, so can save money in identifying those who chemo has no benefit, not to mention avoiding chemo if its not beneficial

Thinking of you

Helly xx
