Sorry this is my second topic of the day but is related! I am 43 and only have one relative who has had breast cancer so I don’t meet NHS criteria for testing despite my own diagnosis. I am trying to decide about next steps in my treatment and don’t know where to start with testing. Seems like the wild west online!
Hi
I was diagnosed August 2023. I too didn’t qualify for genetic tests on NHS but was encouraged to get them done privately.
I needed a mastectomy & if had a mutation would have both breasts removed. I was having an immediate DIEP reconstruction.
My hospital gave me the details of several companies who did genetic testing but said they’d had good feedback on “Everything Genetic”
You call them (01270 623179) speak with a doctor. They send a kit, you spit your saliva in the tube & post back. Mine took just over 2 weeks to get results. The test cost me £300.
I thankfully didn’t have any mutations, only had a single mastectomy & the DIEP reconstruction was a success.
