Genetic Testing

Hi.

My daughter (23) has stage 3 bc and has been referred for genetic testing.

We have absolutely no other breast cancer in the family, although plenty of other types of cancer on both sides, diagnosed before age 50.  At a guess, based on the history, i would think BRCA1/2 highly unlikely and initially thought the test would be a waste of time and money.  However, it has to start somewhere I guess, and breast cancer is so random at such a young age, its hard not to wonder if there is a faulty gene lurking somewhere within the family.

As well as BRCA1/2, they will also test for TP53, Check2 and a full panel PTEN and a couple of others I cannot remember and have absolutely no idea what any of them mean.

I would be interested to hear from anyone else with a similar situation and as to how long others have waited for results.  We were advised at least 6 months which does seem a very long time.

Thank you

Hi Blovesdreamies,

I’m sorry to hear you and your family are going through this.

Feel free to call our nurses for more information on when you might be able to expect results, and anything else they might be able to help with.

They’re open again tomorrow morning on 0808 800 6000.

Take care, Becca at Breast Cancer Care.

Hi Blovesdreamies,

I had my genetic testing a few days after your daughter.  I have just been sent a telephone appointment for Thursday so I assume they are back!  Has your daughter had hers yet?  Take care,
