I was diagnosed with breast cancer 3rd Jan this year, I’ve had a mastectomy and lymph node surgery, chemo and radiotherapy. I finished my chemo in june and my radio in aug. My breast care team and oncologist have constantly pointed out to me about not getting pregnant for at least 2yrs but have any of you got pregnat before this? I haven’t started taking tamoxifen yet due to waiting for a fertility test but I have had 2 periods already.
Both myself and my hubby hate condoms so the few times I actually manage to get lucky (lol) we try to be careful. trouble is I think I might be pregnant and even though I should be happy about this I’m so worried that its too soon and I am so not looking forward to telling my breast care nurse.
I’ve been trying to read up on the internet about being pregnant this soon and what to do next but I could really do with some help from ppl would have gone through this already.
Welcome to the BCC forums, I’m sure you will soon receive a response from the other users. In the mean time you might find it helpful to talk things through with a member of staff on the helpline. Here you can share your thoughts and conerns with someone who will offer you a listening ear as well as emotional support and practical infomration. the number to call is 0808 800 6000 and lines are open Monday to Friday 9 to 5pm and Saturday 10 to 2pm.
Don’t have any advice but I know how hard it is to find any info on what is best. My onc says to wait 2 years is best to avoid the sooner reocurrance possibility and to give your body time to recover from the chemo poison. But, I know I don’t want to wait 2 years, my daughter was 11 months when I was dx and I desperately want a sibling for her sooner… But there are zero stats on what that might mean for me and my health.
I think the fact you haven’t started tamoxifen is better because getting pregnant on that is a definite no as it’s unsafe for baby development. But, if you want to take what they might class as a risk then it’s down to you in the end I think… It’s so hard!!!
Can I ask what fertility tests you are going through? Were these through your onc post treatment? Did you have zolodex during chemo? I had prostrap which is the same thing I think but desperately want to know if I have any lasting damage or might be OK!
hi they never told me two years as i wanted kids before i was 25 and was diognosed at 24 but I will prob wait two years but they never said x good luck
