lol …best wishes Debs
Best thing to do is to ring the preop assessment clinic or the ward to ask. I had DIEP in July in Stevenage and they didn’t specify support pants or anything (we did discuss bras, but they also gave me a (hideous, but comfy) one to go home in), because they provided a velcro/elastic body wrap thing. I bought some hipster style ones (pants that is) to sit above my scar, but my scar was higher than anticipated so unfortunately they lie just ON the scar. Still, really pleased with the op. Hope yours goes really well. Best of luck lizzab
Hi lizzabb, thanks for your quick reply,I think Id better ring them then,so glad you have had such positive outcome its a help to me when I get the wobbles lol.Take care,Debs
Hi Debs
I couldn’t wear any pants just after the op as I had a drain at each end of the abdo scar - but pyjama bottoms were fine with the tubes looping over the waistband and then they give you natty little bags to keep the drain pouches in. Quite tricky having to do manoeuvres when you’re out of bed and toddling along to the loo - I also had a drain from the reconstructed breast - so you have to juggle 3 drains, be able to negotiate pulling down pyjama bottoms whilst making sure your dressing gown belt doesn’t end up dangling down the loo (god, I’d forgotten all this!)
I wasn’t given any kind of corset post op. Just had to wear a soft sports bra for a couple of weeks and since then I’ve been wearing underwired bras which have been fine. As far as pants go, I tried some support ones as my tummy felt a bit unstuck at first, but quickly went back to normal knickers. My scar’s quite low down, so don’t have problems with them rubbing.
It’s a long op and a bit of a palaver afterwards for a few weeks - but like Lizzab, I’ve been really pleased and haven’t regretted it for a moment.
Good luck, Debs.

Hey debbz was just checking in to wish you good luck! It’ll all be fine - rough at first, but it’ll pass. No pants is cool - just pajama bottoms, otherwise granny pants or ‘belly warmers’ are comfy. You just don’t want anything to constrict or press, so loose or baggy jogging bottoms are good too for after HDU.
I’m just getting over a rough weekend post 2nd chemo - mostly headache, nausea and tiredness. Kids keep me going and their constant chatter doesn’t help my sore head.
Well good luck.,Try and relax. It’ll be fine.
