Going through chemo when you already have atrial fibrillation

Hi everyone,

I’m new to the forum, have had a lumpectomy & full lymph node removal and am going to be starting chemotherapy in June, followed by radiotherapy and endocrine therapy.

I’ve read that chemotherapy can trigger Atrial fibrillation (AF) but I’ve got it the other way round - I already have paroxysmal AF and have had it for a number of years. I’d love to hear from people who have been in a similar situation to understand more about how you found chemotherapy impacted your AF (if it did) and anything that you found helped. E.g. I’ve thought about using a cold cap but being very cold can be a trigger for my AF so I’m not sure whether or not to give it a go.

Appreciate any comments and thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum , hopefully you will get some advice from people who’ve been in your situation , you could also ask advice about this from the nurses on the forum in the Ask the Nurses section, I will post you the link  .

If you’d like some ongoing support from people going through chemo at the same time there is a June starters chemo thread , hope all goes well for you x
