GP visit but still worried

Hi everyone,

First time posting here, around 2 months ago I noticed a flat area on the bottom curve of my right breast while my arms were above my head, on closer look it’s underneath my boob and can only be seen with a mirror held underneath there are dimples not like the peau de orange I’ve seen it looks like cellulite.

I made a docs appointment and was seen by a female doctor who looked and couldn’t really see the flattening until I told her. She examined both my breasts thoroughly, armpits and collarbone area and said she couldn’t find any abnormalities and said when there is dimpling there is normally something connected to it which is what causes the appearance. She said she wouldn’t let me go if she thought something was untowards and to keep an eye on and come back if worried.

I have quite big breasts, im 38, had a baby a year ago exclusively pumped for 7 weeks as baby couldn’t latch and I have lost some weight since having baby, I don’t know how long my breast has been like it as i only seen it while drying my hair.

Me being me I just keep thinking there is something wrong, I have health anxiety which obviously makes it worse. I check my breasts all the time which I shouldn’t do, and Google breast dents and it all comes back as a sign of breast cancer, I just keep fuelling the anxiety more.

Would you go back to the GP and ask for a referal to the breast clinic or am I being silly and letting my mind run wild when everything is ok.

Thanks for reading guys

If I were you, I would go back and push for a referral.

Being breast aware is knowing all about what is normal for you, and if this isn’t normal for you, which by the sounds of things, it isn’t- push for a referral and be seen by a breast specialist at a breast clinic.

Chances are it’s nothing serious, but I’m 25 and was diagnosed with BC earlier this year. Because we are younger, we are not always taken as seriously. But it can happen, even though chances are slim.

I would agree with Hannahlizzy and put your mind at rest with a return visit, and stress the need to put your mind at rest.

You know your body best, and yes, your body has been through changes with babe arrival, but you need peace of mind.

Hopefully all will be absolutely fine  -  but you need that reassurance, and I think your GP should support you in that.

Wish you well  -  worry gets in the way of getting on with enjoying life, and you don’t need that ‘worry’.

Htims80, I just wanted to check how you were doing and whether you managed to get your referral after your latest doctors appointment? Hope all went well xx
