Hi, new to this forum. Diagnosed 5 weeks ago with idc with dcis. I was originally going to have lumpectomy and reduction but MRI scan showed larger area of dcis and abnormal lymph nodes. Been such a rollercoaster over last 5 weeks. Had right mastectomy on Friday with axillary clearance. I have bone scan and ct scan this week and then will know what further treatment is planned. I am trying to stay positive but it is so hard
Hi @Mel28 - welcome to this lovely forum, though obviously I’m very sorry to read about your diagnosis. I hope you are recovering well from your operation.
I was diagnosed about 5 years ago and I know exactly how you feel when you describe the rollercoaster and trying to stay positive. I felt as if I had been hit by a truck that came out of nowhere, it was such a shock. I also had a similar diagnosis, and had a right mastectomy and axillary clearance. I’m happy to answer any questions if I can help at all.
I, and I have heard the same from many others on here, found that the early days were the toughest but oddly it got a bit easier once I had a treatment plan in place. Until then my mind went into overdrive.
I hope you will find lots of support on here, where everyone just gets it without any need for explanation. You can ask questions or just offload. You can also call the lovely nurses on here if you have a particular medical question, or just want some support. There is a service called Someone Like Me, where you can be put in touch with someone who had a similar diagnosis or treatment to you.
We are all right with you as you wait for your scans and results. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. Sending lots of hugs and strength, Evie xx
