Hi . I was diagnosed with dcis last week. The consultant said he will tell me after the op if it is hormone receptivev or not. At the time i was just so overwhelmed i never asked the grade . Would there be a reason they never told me this . Thanks in advance.
Hi circleoflife
Thank you for your post.
It’s understandable you felt overwhelmed after being given your diagnosis of DCIS last week.
Many people don’t know what they want to ask until they have had time to reflect on the discussion.
DCIS is graded on how the cells look under the microscope and this can be from both the biopsy and the results after surgery.
Hormone receptors are also tested on the tissue taken from the biopsy or surgery.
Your treatment team will discuss these results with you, and this can help with decisions around your treatment options.
It may be helpful for you to contact your breast nurse or treatment to team to ask if the grade or hormone receptor is available yet and what this means for you.
