Grapefruit and ....ciclib

Bit of a trivial ask this, but hoping some pharmacologist can advise. I am due to change my treatment onto a cyclin inhibitor such as Pablociclib as soon as current virus pandemic under control (or sooner if necessary). I am aware that grapefruit is to be avoided when I am on this drug but should I stop eating it before? I’m tempted to go out and treat myself to lots as I will miss it, but is there something in grapefruit that is likely to stay in my body for a long time?

Hi dragoncarine,

I’m no expert, and certainly not a pharmacist, but as I understand it you should be okay for now, that said, I would stop a few days before to be on the safe side. This website is worth a look if you’re not already aware of it, it does have some research on it too, but some of the info can be a little dated.

Hope this helps and you can start your treatment soon. Can I ask, assuming you’ll be taking it along with another drug, what drug that will be? I’m approaching 5 years and thinking my treatment may need to be changed in the not too distant future, have had the discussion about Palbociclib with my Onc regarding what the next step will be, but two options were mentioned.
