Re going to the press with this story does anyone have good ‘contacts’?
I remembered reading this article by Libby Brooks in The Guardian online…
guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/oct/02/cancer.women
it was written a few years ago but The Guardian might be very interested in our voices being silenced…?
The pic of the T-shirt is still there, in the gallery.
The mass removal of comments by BC sufferers sounds like disability discrimination. Call me old-fashioned, but isn’t that illegal?
If anyone does take this to the press, please inbox me first. I have something helpful.

would they make jokes like this about other cancers/major illnesses?
don’t think so
capitalism at its crudest
So. What happens now?
Been busy emailing media, just had reply from channel 5, they are following up the story. Will keep you posted.
Even if you don’t have press contacts, if you’re on FB, you DO have access to Breakthrough BC’s wall.
Post your feelings on it - quite a few have said that they are never going to give money to them again after this.
My daughter said this is a way getting people talking about it and it gets lots of publicity for them. But i hope we have a chance to give our side and feelings.so if your going to the press this will be good. x
Someone has just posted that Channel 5 are interested in following up on the story …
Morning
With regard to the standard reply I received from BBC I assume that the last part of it is their mission statement:
‘Breakthrough Breast Cancer is dedicated to improving and saving lives through finding the causes of breast cancer, encouraging early detection, ensuring precise diagnosis, discovering new and better treatments, and improving medical services.
We believe passionately that breast cancer can be beaten. Our aim is to bring together the best minds and rally the support of all those whose lives have been, or may one day be, affected by the disease.’
If this is the case then they are failing pretty badly on gaining the support of all those whose lives have been affected by the disease by their endorsement of this t-shirt.
I have just been contacted by The Wright Stuff on Channel 5. The issue will run tomorrow on their live show. Please ring in to let them know your views. They are following the debate on this forum and are aware of the controversy.
How many members does this forum have, anyone know? We can work out the percentage of dislikes and neutral/like members then.
Good to want to help out a charity, but not like this. T-shirt itself makes me feel uncomfortable - a bit sexist?. Breast cancer isn’t ‘cheeky’ or ‘light’, for me it’s the disease that could see my children lose their mother.

I have been blocked and had my comments deleted from the English Threads wall but I will not be silenced and have set up a Boycott English Threads page on Facebook; please “like” the page if you DISLIKE this crass marketing ploy. English Threads have shown contempt for women living with breast cancer by deleting our comments. They care nothing for us and only want to make a quick dollar on the back of our suffering. I have also commented on Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s Facebook page. They are more likely to pull their endorsement (hopefully) than English Threads are to show some conscience.
Thanks Starflower. I’ll go on FB and dislike!
I’m also going to sit down when I’ve done my jobs and write an email to The Wright Stuff, explaining, if I can, some of the reasons why this sort of marketing is so unacceptable.
I’ve already emailed Brrakthrough Breast Cancer with my views. No doubt I’ll get a reply tomorrow when they are back at work.
DISLIKE (intensely)!
Great news, i’ve just heard that The Wright Stuff’s researcher has this morning had a long conversation about this issue with one of our forum members who has contacted numerous media outlets to garner publicity. They are really interested and are planning to run the issue tomorrow if posdible. They know all about the fb entries for english threads, breakthrough and also the comments on here. Its on channel 5 in the morning. Well done to out bc buddy for being a rottweiller, and again shame on breakthrough and english threads for failing to evaluate the situation and remedy it.
Well done to the Wright Stuff for picking it up, let’s hope it’s the start of these companies listening to us and thinking how these tasteless items impact on those of us who have to live with this disease.
By the way ‘DISLIKE’
Hear Hear et!
I see they have removed the tshirt. and all write ups on there wall.May be now there listen.
