Grid to do Decades of Cancer Research in 2 years

Hi everyone,

I had been feeling down lately, but then I found out that the World Community Grid is running a project called ‘Help Conquer Cancer’ which will use the spare computer capacity of volunteers from around the world to conduct research in two years that would take 162 years on a normal computer. I have been running the World Community Grid program for nearly three years now with no problems. The last time the WCG ran an anti-cancer project I was gutted that I couldn’t participate because my computer wasn’t advanced enough, but my four-year old computer has no problems with the ‘Help Conquer Cancer’ project. Although I know the payoffs from this research will be far in the future, I am determined that cancer will not be an issue when my little boy grows up.

Of course, the more people who sign up the faster this project will get done. To participate you will need your own computer. The downloadable program runs quietly in the background, so even when I read my e-mail my computer is helping conquer cancer. The idea is that most people have computers that have alot more capacity than they use. For example, your computer is running as you read this, but it is not doing very much all.

Anyway, here is a blurb on the project:

Take care,

Christine

hi there - thanks for the link, busy downloading now. Was lovely to see that my operating system is covered, most of these projects are PC only!

Yes, I have a mac, which is usually excluded. I’ve just installed the software. How easy was that? What a good project.

Jenny.

Thanks for the link, Christine. I’ve signed up too.

Yeah, I’ve downloaded the software on my mac too. Thanks so much for the link Christine. Great idea.

Hey guys,

Now I’m a bit of an aul thicko so did I do something wrong as my BIONC Manager says “ERROR: No work available to process”.

Thanks,

Teacup

I’ve just signed up.

Ok, finally got the show on the road. Woohoo.
