Has anyone else found their gums receding from chemo/meds. Mine were already bad but have got a lot worse since my treatment started. Think I may well end up losing teeth. Seeing dentist in February but just wondering if I’m alone with this. Nothing mentioned by treatment team at all re dental care or side effects xx
Yes, your team should have mentioned this as chemotherapy kills fast growing cells, which includes gums.
I was advised to floss daily and brush my teeth daily with a gentle toothpaste and was given Corsodyl by the pharmacist on the ward to use twice daily.
As already said, your team should have advised to be on top of your oral hygiene as there are many side effects that can impact the mouth.
Have a chat with your team aswell as they can prescribe things to keep your mouth healthy during this time. I used Corsodyl and it did make my teeth a bit grey but was told it was normal and my teeth would return to normal once I stopped using it. They did.
Take care ![]()
Thank you for your reply. I will speak to my team about it next time I go in. X
Thank you so much. I will try corsodyl too. Xx

Get some interdental brushes, you need the biggest one that will go into the gap , tightly .
Do this twice a day .
I started using a really soft toothbrush and switched to a non-alcohol mouthwash, which helped a lot with the soreness. Also tried gently massaging my gums, and that eased discomfort too.
I had a lot of gum pain and struggled with regular dentures shifting and rubbing, which made everything worse. My dentist suggested Mini Implant Dentures because they’re more stable and don’t press on my gums the same way. They sit on little posts, so the pressure isn’t spread over sore areas. It’s been a huge help with both comfort and eating, especially since treatment made my gums extra sensitive.
