Had core biopsy but confused
Had core biopsy but confused Had my core biopsy Thursday 14th June then went on holiday to Isle of Wight on the Friday. The biopsy went OK but took over half an hour and I was pulled around quite a lot.
The consultant seemed to change his mind continuously throughout the procedure (he did the biopsy himself). Firstly he said that if there were insufficient cells or abnormal cells he would operate. If all was OK I would be discharged. Told me to come back in two weeks for the results. Then he said no they would write with the results, then he said to phone for the results. He then said he wouldn’t operate if there were insufficient cells but would discharge me.
I was getting totally confused by all of this but stupidly didn’t say anything at all just lay there bemused.
I have just returned home from my holiday and do not have a clue what to do? Do I ring and ask for the lump to be removed whatever the results or do I just go to the hospital - I have received no letter - does anyone have any ideas? Has anyone else had a situation like this?
Thanks for all your support it has made such a huge difference to the waiting.
Ring the Breast Care team at your hospital, asap. They are there as your prime liaison point
Ask if the results have been received and how you are to be informed of them, no point in getting yourself in a tiz, just ask.
Good luck, hope the results are encouraging.
consultant doesn’t sound the best communicator in the world If I were you I’d have the lump out if you are over forty years old. I had what was supposed to be a benign lump and it turned out to be cancerous when I had further tests on the lump. So I would say that wouldn’t I!
Under 40 I’d keep a watchful eye and if it showed any signs of enlarging I’d also have it taken out

Hi Mole
Thanks for the info - will talk to the breast care unit about having the lump removed.
Yes I’m over 40 (nearly 50) with a young 5 year old son, so will talk to the docs about your suggestion.
Thanks once again
