had course of fmc about to start docetaxel with herceptin

THis is the first time i have left a message so hello to everyone. Anyone had this treatment just want to know if so,how they have coped. I did well with FMC and had no side effects , had cool cap and kept all my hair Want to know what to expect with new treatment which starts in Febuary

Hi Skelts and welcome. Did you mean to post on a secondaries page, or are you about to be horrified?! I can’t tell from your treatment. People often wander onto these pages by accident. Whichever, doesn’t matter, but you may get more replies if you post under a different heading (e.g.undergoing treatment). If you have secondaries then please do tell us a bit about yourself and diagnosis, and where you’re up to. We’re a friendly bunch with a whole raft of experience of different kinds of secondaries - anything you need to know, just ask.
I’m sure someone will reply about the particular treatment you are having soon. I had Herceptin with paclitaxel (Taxol) which may be chemically similar, I don’t know. You don’t want to know about me tho as i had trouble with my blood count and it all took far too long. I finished in Nov and I’m now on Herceptin and tamoxifen. I have liver secondaries.
All the best and hope you get some answers

Hi Skelts,

I had FEC 18 months ago (Coped very well) and currently on the treatment you are asking about.
The first session (Without Herceptin) was awful, pain, sore mouth, hallucinations etc etc. However when I saw my onc before the next treatment she decided to reduce the dosage because of the damage a too strong a dose can do. The second session along with Herceptin was much better, same side effects but manageable. I had my 3rd session last Thursday and was back at work today so each session has got better.

I hope that helps

Carol

Hi Skelts

I had 3 x FEC and 3 x taxotere and finished in November and am now on herceptin, My onc didn’t do them together, not sure why and never really asked the question, but I was pretty rough on the tax, and the 2nd one, along with cough/cold, ended up with me in hospital!!! FEC I sailed through.

I would say, that if you get the slightest sniffle, keep an eye on your temp and if you feel a little rough or temp a bit up, get yourself to the docs as quick as you like, for antibiotics. I managed to do that on the last tax, and avoided the hospital trip again!!! But it is doable i promise you, although have no idea about them both together, but Herceptin there seems to be no or very little side effects. I have not had any apart from bit of the flu like symptoms.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Take care
Love

thanks for comments , yes unfortunatly i did mean to go to page re secondaries . i first had breast cancer in 1991 had lumpectomy and radiotherapy then in 2003 the cancer returned and i had a double mascetomy but 2007 i just had a cough and after tests was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer. It has responded well to the first cycle of chemo , one more cycle to go then just herceptin so fingers crossed

thanks everyone

Oh I am sorry to hear that Skelts. Sorry if I sounded at all off-putting before…
It’s a bit of a wait for you to start, February, which must be hard. Does it feel any better second time thru, as you know a bit of what to expect?
All the very best with your treatment.
