Hair Colour
Hair Colour Hi,
Just finished chemo and rads and some days feel on top of the world, other days not so good - sure you all know how it is!!
Anyway, hair is growing back (hurray!), but it is black and grey (ugh!). Want to colour it as soon as it gets to a decent length and feel can go out without wig. But… am really nervous about putting any chemicals on it, not least because of ruining the hair, but also the chemicals going into my body!
Seen an advertisement for Naturtint, and have been on their website, www.naturesdream.co.uk, but wondered if anyone could offer any advice. All will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hair Colour Hi Jean
I have been using this brand of hair colour since my hair started to grow back just over 18 months now and have been very pleased with the results.
Take care

Hi daisies
You are right to have some reservations about using hair dye. There are statistically small but not statistically invisible risks associated with all hair dye even the so-called ‘natural’ ones. There is an interesting and informative thread on this in the current issues/hot topics forums. I have brought this to the top of the forum so if you would like to read it you will find it relatively easily.
Best wishes
Roisin

Hair Dye Hi Jean
I finished my chemo in January and rads in March and I was advised to wait at least 6 months before dying my hair.
I finally dyed it in July and used a natural vegetable based product that you can purchase from Lush called “caca”. You get 6 blocks and use 2 at each dying session. It cost about £6.00. It’s a bit of a messy job (looks a bit like a cow pat!) and takes at least 6-7 hours as you have to leave the product on your hair and cover it (I used a shower cap) but I am really pleased with the results.
I haven’t dyed it again as yet - I’m going to this weekend but I think it seems to have covered a lot better than the dyes I used to use before I was ill.
Hope you get on okay.
Louise

Hi,
I finished chemo in May 06 about 7 months ago and was thinking of dying my hair again.
I was going to use the normal bleech and colour i put in before my hair fell out is that a bad idea?
Should i be using natura stuff?
Hair Colour Hi there
My hair started growing back May last year. By Christmas there was 7 months growth, I needed a good restyle and trim at the hairdressers and so took the plunge and had my hair lowlighted too.
I’m pleased with the results - I look good and I’ve regained my confidence.
You do what you want!

Thanks.
I will have 6 months growth by the end of this month so I think I will just go for it.
Did your eyebrows come back as normal?
Mine are very slow.
Eyebrows I lost all my body hair except for my eye lashes (they were thick to start with and just thinned out slightly) and I still maintained some eyebrows!!
It was lovely not having to do my legs, arms and you know what!!
That soon all changed though and everything is sprouting back with a vengence. Trying to keep on top of everything but never succeed ha ha.
The eyebrows are back to being plucked again!!
Let me know how you get on. I’ve got to make another hairdresser appointment for next week. My hair has grown so quickly!!!
Take care

Thanks for that.
The only good thing about chemo is not having to shave your legs for 6 months !! ha
I have an appt booked for the end of Jan for my second hair cut so will let you know how I get on. My eyebrows are a bit of a worry tho.
Was hoping they would be fully back by now considering it is nearly 7 months. I do have a bit but not nearly as thick as they were.
Where yours back totally after 6 months?
I hope mine come back as they were.

Eyebrows Are you still having any form of treatment?
I started on Tamoxifen in August and Herceptin in October of last year.
Yeah, my eyebrows were being plucked again about 4 months after growing back.
Don’t worry though, they’ll thicken up in time and then you’ll wish they hadn’t, ha ha.

No I have finished my Chemo in May and Radiotherapy the middle of Oct. I am now on Tamoxifen so am enjoying the hot flushes not !!
It feels like it is taking forever to start to look normal again. My hair is back and seems to be growing quite thickly and curly.
I never had to pluck my eyebrows before all this started they were thick but a shape i never had to touch. I was quite lucky. That was the only part of me i liked.
So hopefully they will come back !
How are you feeling now? Are the tablets having any effect on you?

Message for Marymo I’m getting there slowly. Starting to “look normal” again although inside still emotionally raw. Have my down days still when I just burst into tears for no reason at all but generally living life to the full. Periods are still coming and only stopped during chemo for a couple of months.
I have to go to the hospital every three weeks for Herceptin - no side effects from that thankfully albeit a runny nose from time to time.
Have been on the Tamoxifen since August - I’ve started waking up during the night and getting a “little warm” in bed but not sure whether this is body heat from my boyfriend or side effects!! A little sore down below at times but other than that I’m OK on them.
I am hoping to start for a family with my boyfriend a year after I finish Herceptin so will only be on Tamoxifen for 2 years. The hospital are aware of this and I’ve been told that the first two are the most important anyway.
How are you coping with everything?

Hi Marymo
I am 16 months post chemo and only the hair on my head has come back as thick as it was pre chemo.
My eyelashes are very sparse but looking on the positive side I haven’t plucked my eyebrows for over two years and only need to tidy up the other bits and bobs every 3 or 4 months - fabby.

Its hard to except when you are told!! I think i was better when I was going through the treatment as now i i have finished I have quite a few low days!! I had grade 2 breast cancer that was 2mm. There was nothing in my lymph glands. I had Chemo 4x FEC ans 4X Taxotere first then a lumpetomy then 6 weeks of radiotherapy. What did you have??
I really hate work now as well because I have forotten everything! I am 26 but feel like an old age pensioner. Do you find that you ahve forgotten much since this has happened.
Thats great that your going to try for a baby. My boyfriend and I will wait a few years before we start trying.
We probably don’t feel it but all in all we are quite lucky!
All i can think about are my eyebrows which is quite sad really as they are not that important in the run of things but still get upset as i think they should be back now.
I am really glad you don’t have any side effects that makes it a bit easier.

If only the other hair like legs would only come back sparsly !!
Are your eyebrows far off what they were before?

Hi Annierose,
Thanks for replying !! Am really worried about it. Can you tell you have eyebrows now though?
Did they take longer than 6 months to come back?
I am at nearly 7 months now and still have hardly anything.
