Having my hair cut today and my friend was going to colour my roots for me. Just had a thought though, is it ok/safe to do that before chemo or rads because of the chemicals or am I over reacting?! xx
Jencat, I queried this with my BC nurse and she did say not to. Her words were ‘better safe than sorry’. I guess it’s because no one can tell how you are going to react to the chemicals. Then again, when I saw my hairdresser she said she would get me a vegetable dye that would be safe during chemo! Too many decisions! It fell out pretty quickly, so I saved money by not bothering. X
Hi Jencat
I colour my hair so I’ve already looked into this - can’t just find the site where I got the info now but if your chemo was a few weeks off then I think it’d be fine to have it done but if it’s imminent then it’s best to give it a miss.
I’m making a list of pre-chemo prep and so far on the list I’ve got: a full dental check up and teeth clean (bacteria not good for a weakened immune system obvs) and a smear test. Apparently chemo can temporarily make your smear test appear abnormal so if you need one any time soon might be best to get it done now xx
I am having my hair coloured on Monday last time for me as although I won’t start chemo for about 6 weeks after my op on the 7th September I am going to grave the shave with my sister on 9 th October sovwont have any hair when I start chemo as bc nurse todayvsaid I will defineltly lose my hair xx
Brave the shave lol ? not grave x
I think they all do Jen I wanted to make sure before I spent money on wigs lol x. For me if I shave even before chemo it feels like I am a little bit in control instead of bc controlling me x
SueW
I agree with the being in control bit as it’s coming out anyway. I had mine cut shorter last week, then next week even shorter, then shave probs just after first chemo. Getting a bit nervous now. X
I’ve replied, lol. Doesn’t matter, we can post whatever we want however many times as sometimes it might help the members who just read but do not post as they may not read the other thread! I sometimes do that.Sonetimes I read something which related to me and read the comments so I don’t need to post. If you understand what I mean:D
My chemo was rushed through so I didn’t get to dentist or smear test first but I sure had a hair colour! Happened to have it booked after surgery and did it thinking chemo would be weeks away!
I have read about a Daniel galvin colour called water colour that I will be enquiring about, in a hairdresser so always inquisitive about this! I was told. I colour for 6m after chemo, but am gonna ask tha onc as this has no ammonia/peroxide.
Cherrybakewell - mad woman in the attic!!!?
Yes 6months after is what I was told. Am going to question this though!
Hi,
Another fake blonde here!
I decided to have low lights after diagnosis and about 3 weeks before chemo so my roots blended with my hair. That way the colour won’t look too two tone.
Mind you I’ve been told not to wash my hair except once a week during treatment so I probably should have saved my money and not bothered as I will have to wear a hat to cover my greasy mop until it falls out!
Cath x
