I reached another milestone yesterday. I had my hair trimmed!!! It felt good, so this is a message to encourage all those longing to have some hair to cut, it will happen.
My last taxotere was 20 February and my hair is still very short but now looks more tidy and not with those funny long bits hanging around the ears.
Well done Wizzbaby
I am thinking of getting mine trimmed.I finished about same time as you,and again although short, there are wispy bits over ears,so will get it done me thinks
Congratulations Wizzbaby. I finished my Tax last November…and have had a cut and a gentle colour since then. It looked straight whilst it was very short but has gone very curly as its grown! I always had straight hair before so I look in the mirror and don’t recognise myself at all, lol!
thanks everyone, you have given me some courage. I had my last Tax on 10th April, and since then my hair has been so slow in coming back. It is like fine baby hair at the moment. i am longing for the day when my thick black hair will return, but I am beginning to wonder if it will ever come back. I would love to be able to go out without a scarf. I can’t imaging getting to the stage when I have it cut.
I finished Taxotere in Jan 07 and finished Herceptin March 07. My hair grew slowly whilst on herceptin but stil covered well and now it has gone mad. Ineed my fringe cutting for the first time in 2 years since diagnosis!!! Its a lovely feeling. People look at me weirdwhen I tell them!
Wow you lot are so good about the hair stuff. I finished TAX in November and still haven’t been able to bring myself to have a cut. I am terrified I’ll go back about 6 weeks in growth cos it is so slow growing but I am going to have to get something done with it.
It was absolutely poker straight and very fine before and now its sort of wavy and getting curlier as it gets longer. It no longer looks like I ever lost it but I don’t like my hair short. I need gravity to take over cos it doesn’t seem to get longer just bigger LOL!!
Someone said to me the other day oh you’ve changed your hair its totally different now. No I haven’t done anything it does this all by itself apart from the wax I put on it to try and eliminate the fuzz look.
Well having read how well you are all getting on I am going to book an appointment today and get it sorted, thanks for the kick up the back side.
I usually wear a hat when I pick my children up from school, but didn’t take it because I had been wearing a cycle helmet. Another mum asked me if I had, had a mad moment in the hairdressers. So I did (graciously, I think) explain that I had been wearing a wig for over 6 months and it really wasn’t this short by choice. Still another positive vote for the wig.
Happy hair cuts everyone! whenever you get to have one.
Hi , my last Tax was 27th Feb and I had a tiny trim on friday too. The colour side of things hasnt worked too well however but thats another story. Do you think we’ll really keep this wiry stuff ? I feel its just growing upwards at the moment and cant imagine the day when its a decnt length to do something with
It will be! Mine is still growing upwards to which is very weird after long, fine and dead straight. But thank the lord it is there on my head! And can go out without the head cover again.
finished Tax Feb 13th, First trim to deal with whispy bits over the ears two weeks ago. my hair is still very fine and some hair seems to be growing upwards.
No 1 son just returned from uni (he last saw me with fuzz at beginning of May) Verdict haircut severe but OK doesn 't need much more length could do with a little more coverage.Seems to think that i shouldn’t return to a bob.
So folks who’s worked out the best sun protection for the fair sensitive skin between the fine hair?
Call me mad but I’m starting to believe that there are forces out there making things happen …
Today (this will make you laugh) I was walking back from the school run with a friend. we are pushing our 2 year olds in buggies and I got my wig stuck in a bramble sticking out from the fence. walked on a few steps and it came off and was there swinging high and dry . I was mortified but couldnt stop laughing at the same time. She had never seen me without the wig and said hey it looks really good. I’ve been waiting to ditch the wig for a few days now and never felt right . I think someone up there was testing me out !
So after hastily getting it off the branch she had to geta few twigs out of it . I will forever have that image of my wig hanging there … I sent her a text later hoping she hadnt been too freaked out but it made her day !!
Wonderful story Cally - so now you can “branch out” with the new look!
I’ve been out a few times without my wig - wanting to ditch it soon but feel so “mousey” having been “blonde” for so many years.
It’s been suggested to me that I don’t go back to my old bob but stay short - will be a long time until I have to decide.
The little boy probably thought you have magic hair!
Yes I feel very dark too after having had my hair coloured for years . I went out today in baseball cap . All my friends know but the lady at the local golf club where I do tumbletots said ‘oh new hair cut or is it all in a pontytail ?’ . When I explained she cried and I comforted her … oh well guess I’m as hard as nails now and have had 9mth to get used to the news. Still dont like to go over it though mainly because I dont want to rake over old coals when I’m trying to think ahead.
…funny how much time we spend comforting other people about our breast cancer!
Good luck Cally - sounds like you are really moving forward now. I have had my clebratory bubbly tonight as finished rads today. We live with uncertainty, but then that’s life. I feel ready to think ahead as well. Sarah x
Well done Cally! Think that was always my worst nightmare when wearing a wig or turban! And yes we have a good while before we can decide whether to stay short or grow it long again!
Finsihed chemo Oct 07 and have approx 2 1/2 inches. yes it very messy around the neck and ears but with a bit of gel (a lot sometimes) i get it looking ok. To be honest i darn’t have it cut. have a look at my new hair do on breastcancerstory.co.uk
I just did Karen, you look fantastic! What a great web site you have, I am sure that it will help others. How did you set it up? (I’m so backward when it comes to computers!!). Good luck for the future. Sarah x
