Hi,
can anyone recommend any safe hair dye to use after chemo, also WHEN can you dye it after treatment?
many thanks,
Jackie
Hiya Jackie
I finished Epi on 18th April and then went onto CMF which finished 8th August. My hair started to grow back after I finished Epi, but came back curly and black/grey!!! People said you couldn’t colour it for 6 months but I could not live with the Bobby Ball look any longer and asked my hairdresser to colour it. She did a test first (bit of dye behind the ear) and it was fine, so she went ahead and coloured it using the dyes I used to have before BC and it turned out great. This was done in October, which was 6 months after I finished Epi (and my hair started to grow) but only 2 months after I finished CMF. Sorry if this message seems a bit ‘garbled’, but I’m trying to give you as much info as I can. Have you finished chemo and which one did you have?
Any further questions, just yell.
Good luck.

I’ve used henna on mine - couldn’t stand the white. I used brun from Lush - you buy a block of six squares, and I only needed one square, but need to redo it every 2 weeks or so, it’s growing so fast! I’ve heard that being natural it’s OK. Hope so! Does have a pinkish hue, but I quite like it.
Hello Jackie
I used a Daniel Field - or Fielding - cannot remember which - water colour which does not contain peroxide or ammonia. It’s very good. I had my last chemo on 1st May and I think I dyed my hair for the first time in August.
I bought it at Sainsbury’s.
Take care

I’ve always said that I wished I’d never started colouring my hair… I’ve decided that I no longer want to put nasty chemicals on my head!! I know that there’s probably no link to cancer, but who know how or why I got bc…so from now on I’m only going to use completely good stuff on my body!! So, at 44 yrs, with the hair starting to grow back in… GREY…aaghhh…too young to be a silver-top, but I’m just going to have to get used to the new funky look
Hope you find what you’re looking for…

Like AliS has decided, I’m not going to colour my hair again. My hair has come back and is grey/silver at the front, darkening as it goes back. I went to my work today and unveiled the new look (last time they saw me with hair it was shoulder length and copper colour). Everyone commented on how good it looked and several emplored me to not (a) grow it long again or (b) colour it as it suits me so much
I decided it will save me lots of time and money not to colour again, so I’m not going to. Stuff it - this is me now. If someone doesnt like it, they can do the other!!!

Hi Jackie
The following link will take you to a Breast Cancer Care publication called ‘Hair loss and breast cancer’ which contains some advice about hair colouring after treatments have finished:
