Hi, I’ve been on Anastrazole for 3 years. Recently I’ve noticed my hair getting thinner and thinner. Could this be the medication. Has anyone tried seaweed shampoo as a remedy?
Hi just wanted to pop on and let you know the nurses will be back from 9 on Monday.
A good resource is Cancer Hair Care charity started by Jasmin who worked with Trevor Sorbie and does the Look Good Feel Better courses for cancer patients. Jasmin and her team test many products and give their honest advice.
I’ve been on Letrozole and Exemestane and still have shedding, I think all aromatase inhibitors can cause thinning due to low oestrogen.
Take care.

Hello margaretjs,
Thank you for posting.
Hair loss or hair thinning can occur as a result of hormone therapy such as anastrozole. This is often mild and might only occur for a short time. However, in some cases it can start sometime after treatment begins and continue until treatment finishes. This can be particularly distressing as treatment is usually recommended for five, sometimes 10 years. When hormone therapy finishes, hair will usually start growing back. This may take some time and for some may not fully return to the same thickness.
As @naughty_boob says Cancer Hair Care are a great resource. They offer a number of services to support anyone experiencing hair loss or hair thinning through cancer treatment. They welcome phone and email questions and can offer consultations over the phone.
Hair thinning can also be caused by hormonal changes and from being deficient in some nutrients so you may want to talk to your GP about this. They can do blood tests to rule out these or other causes.
We have a range of services that can help support someone who is going through treatment. Each person will find their own way of dealing with hair loss, but it can be helpful to talk to others who have been through the same experience. We don’t know if seaweed shampoo helps. You could also post here to see what has helped other women, bearing in mind different things work for different people
