Hi. I have started chemotherapy and looking to buy a scarf as a back up in case I lose all my hair. Any suggestions on any websites or what type to go for. I, wondering about silk or whether cotton is better. I’m not sure if I’d want a wig yet but will look into that if I lose too much hair.
Hi Rosa. I hope you’re coping with chemo reasonably well. I finished 6 cycles just after Easter. I did get a wig, but I’ve only worn it twice in public. Because my chemo was over winter I relied on beany hats. My hair is in the early stages of regrowth just now. It’s still sparse on top so I’m not comfortable with showing that to the world. I’ve only just got brave enough to go hatless at home, with a hat close by the door in case I have an unexpected caller.
I have switched now to a lightweight plain cotton base cap with patterned narrow scarf tied around it for a splash of colour. My hospital had a lady every week showing cancer patients different headwear suggestions, and selling these simple no fuss ideas. Your hospital might have someone like this.
I think I’ve also seen a category on this site somewhere with similar help. Try searching headwear for chemo, or something similar.
Good luck for the rest of your treatment plan x
Hi
Look at headwrappers, look good feel better and cotton scarfs for turbans ( lots of guidance videos on youtube)
I just utilised all the zillions of scarves I had already plus searched “turbans” on Vinted and bought loads really cheaply. Search auto gele if you want something really flashy.
You tube is great for scarf tying techniques. I have to say the black ladies are extremely good at it and have all the best videos.
I’m booked into a “headwrappers” session too. It just takes a bit of practice xx
Cotton jersey beanie hats are good as the material stretches and feels comfortable and can be washed easily.
Search for cotton jersey chemo hat in EBay, or in Google.
Or check out your local hospital cancer centre who may have advice and maybe even a selection of secondhand hats available to try.
Vinted is a really good place to get bits for cheap in case you dont like them or want to try something different. Hope you’re coping well with the chemo
