Hair on Docetaxel

Hi, I’m 32 days post 2nd EC and have 1 more EC to go!! I then move on to docetaxel… I’m cold capping and so far have managed to keep enough hair to cover the thinning areas which I’m grateful for! It just looks thinner all over!

I’ve read that docetaxel is much less harsh on hair than EC, and even some people get some regrowth DURING docetaxel!? Does anybody have any positive hair stories for me please :folded_hands:

Thank you for any advice :two_hearts:

Yep, mine started growing back around the end of my first docetaxel cycle and I had a good length to it by the end of the third cycle. It was still a bit thin though, I looked like a coconut so I shaved it back. I didn’t cold cap.

I didn’t cold cap so I lost all my hair during EC but it was starting to grow back during Docetaxel.,

Thanks @jaygo I’ve got hope I might just keep enough without having to shave if it can just cling on through the next 5 weeks of the last EC :folded_hands:

yeah you probably won’t want to be shaving. It was just that I was completely bald from not cold capping so it looked weird with wispy bits on the top. xxx

I’m cold capping through docetaxel and carboplatin and my hair has thinned but I still have a full head of hair with no noticeable bald spots. I’ve had 5/6 chemo sessions.

I think if your hair has mostly survived the EC you will hopefully lose less during the docetaxel.

Hi i cold capped and yes it looked thin for a while but wow, then i got thick and curly. No need to go to the hairdresser to have curls put in, now 4 years down the line i still have curly thicker hair. My advice don’t shave, trust your body and look forward to the delights she choses to give you. Some of my fellow ladies even reported a change in colour.

The only key aspect you need to remember through Doxetaxel is to drink plenty of water to flush the red dye in the drug out of your system. You will however see a red line travers both your hand nails and toe nails. The latter may take 6 months to pass through, but thats only because they grow slower. And keep massaging your feet, roll a tennis ball under the sole if you don’t have a wooden foot massage roller. Feel free to ask more. lol Moonsox xx.

Thank you @moonsox! How did the hair thinning compare from EC to docetaxel for you?

Mines really thin now from curly thick hair :sob: but there is enough to look “ok” worn in a bun with a nice headband and plenty to add a wig topper on which I tried out again yesterday with my headband (pic of topper below), I always said from the get go I’m not shaving my head, I’ll cling on to the last 2 strands if I have to :joy:

Noted RE the water, I do naturally drink alot anyway and more so going through chemo. Xxxx

Wow you’ve got more hair than i did, but you have youth on your side. the hair loss was progressive and yes eased towards the end of my cycles. I however had my drivers license renewed part way through thus for the next 10 years, i can reassure others about getting through breast cancer, when and if they query the pic. Moonsox, xx.

Hey @moonsox that’s with the wig topper on, although I can still just about get away with it without with a headband! Nobody has noticed anything anyway!

That’s good to know it slowed down abit, hopefully I’m over the worst!

This is it today, it’s thinning on my crown and has pretty much gone from the nape of my neck around an inch up but it can all still be styled to hide for now!! Xxxx

This is it today without any wig toppers et, doesn’t look too bad!

You are doing amazingly well. Most of the other hair i lost wasn’t in view. But most of that grew back although i’m pleased the underarm didn’t and the electric shaver my sister bought me soon became redundant. Key when washing your hair is to ensure you don’t use Hot water or hair dryer on hot, warm is best even now going forward.

I do recommend you put your name down the the Look good feel better make up session, there is plenty to learn and its fascinating when you realise by how much communication is understood by having eyebrows! Love and light Moonsox xx
