Hair re-growth

Hi All,

Had my last FEC three weeks ago today and my hair has been growing since my third one (albeit slowly). Now today I have noticed that it seems to be coming out again.

WHAT’S GOING ON!!! I didn’t expect this. Anyone got any ideas. It has been growing quite nicely the past couple of weeks.

HELP!!!

Love

Hi susie

sorry but this horrible poison stays in your body for along time, i noticed really that my haird didnt get really growing again until after about 3 months and even after six months im still having problems with my nails and also my eyelashes started to thin out even though i kept them throughout my chemo so six months on its still in my system, my onc said this was normal as it stays in you for a long time so dont be shocked by anything over the next year.

sorry its not good news.

Hi Tracey

Thanks for your reply. Its not the news I wanted to hear, but at least I know that its normal. Was worried that my hair was going to fall out and never return.

I knew the drugs stayed in your body for a long time but didn’t realise it was that long. I thought maybe three months. I been trying to explain to friends, family etc why it is that I am not “back to normal”. They think that as soon as you finished treatment that you should be feeling ok. I have actually been more down since the chemo finished than I was whilst on it. A delayed reaction I suppose.

Radiotherapy in two weeks (15 treatments) then tamoxifen. OH THE JOYS!!!

Take Care

Hi Tracey

Are you sure that your hair is coming out at the roots. When my hair started coming back it was quite fine and very curly and then this started to come out or so I thought. The fine hair was actually just breaking off but not from the roots and stronger thicker hair very quickly followed. I am now 8 months post chemo (ECMF) and my hair is still very short. Hope this helps.

Hi Susie and Margaret

its so normal to feel down after treatment, its in your body for so long that its bound to make you feel emotional and tired. Even after all my treatment and getting the all clear i was still living in fear that it may come back and again im told this is normal, the worse bit for me is that not knowing what caused it so its sort of made me cautious of everything, including BBQ’s!!!

margaret, i had more trouble with my eyelashes and eyebrows after at least 5 months and still having problems with my eyelashes after my last chemo in january. The hair on my head was just very slow growing, im pretty sure i didnt loose any on my head after it started growing back and now its about two inches long, still not long enough for me to take the wig off, hopefully by xmas.

take care

I am 3 months post chemo and hair is about half an inch all over head with a long tuft at the back.I’ve ditched the wig and everyone says I look years younger.Eyelashes growing but v short brows almost nonexistent;nails a mess, lost one big toe nail other looking dodgy and neuropathy no better BUT I am here and I dont care about the rest. The chemo can damage the bits that dont matter as long as it has killed the cancer. Good luck all ,think of the money we’re saving on depilatories etc.lol horacexx

Hi everyone, I am six weeks away from the end of this chemo, and wnting to get there much more quickly, so am feeling confused, bored, frustrated, hate waiting, just can’t seem to find the patience for it.

I was hoping to find my hair growing back at the end, have surgery and radiotherapy and for it all to be over and life to start again.

I am very very sad that I have to lose so much of my precious time, when everyone around me are living theeir lives, anyone else feel frsutrated?

Hi there
I had 4 taxols and now just have 1 of 4 ec left. I have a fuzz all over my head that started to grow back after I finished the taxol. I am on a reduced dose of ec so that might make a difference. I must say its lovely to see some hair growing although its painfully slow.
My eyelashes and eyebrows are also coming back. However thankfully the hairs on my legs have not grown!
Best wishes Alison x

Hi Susie
I had my last FEC of 6, a week ago and about a week before that noticed that my hair was coming back. The fuzz on my head is distinctly darker, my pubic and leg hair is appearing fast, and I shaved my arm pits for the first time in four months yesterday!
Has anyone else had their hair return whilst still undergoing chemo.?
I am worried that maybe I have become resistant to it - or maybe it’s just not working. The onc doesn’t appear to be worried - but I am!

yes some of my hair broke off after starting to grow back and I had a bald spot at the back of my head but it is growing nicely again!!

Misty - don’t worry. Lots of people find that their hair starts to grow back while they’re still on chemo. I had 3 x FEC and 3 x Taxotere and mine started to grow very very slowly after the second Taxotere. It didn’t really get going for a long time though. It seemed to stop and start while I was still on the chemo. I had my last chemo on 1st May 2007 and didn’t feel able to go without a wig or hat until about the middle of November.

Best wishes everyone

Thanks Anthi - that’s put my mind at rest . Hope your hair is looking great now!

Hello Tracey

Yes thanks - it’s looking nice now. I had my first hairdo a couple of weeks ago - great excitement - she trimmed it just a tiny bit and put 3 different shades of blonde in. I need to take out a mortgage to pay for it but it makes me feel so much better it’s worth every penny.

Good luck everyone and take care
