I am currently about to have cycle 5 of 6 FEC and will begin radiotherapy mid November.
I lost the hair on my hair after first cycle (shaved it off once it started) - although I still have a thin layer of baby like strands. Body hair loss has been random - not fully lost leg or underarm hair more just patches.
Eyebrows and lashes held on until cycle 4 and have only just started to really thin out. This is the hardest one for me as it is so hard to hide, I have a really good wig for my head.
In preparation for finishing chemo, I have ordered “Rapid Brow”, has any used this during or after chemo and had good results? I am unsure if it can be used whilst still on chemo but hoping to begin it soon after. I also ordered “The Ordinary” lash serum to try as this was relatively inexpensive compared to the Rapid Lash.
Any tips for head hair regrowth would be welcomed also.
Look Good Feel Good run online courses . There’s one about hair loss and regrowth which I attended the other day . Busts all the myths and so informative wish I had attended earlier. They also run one on brows and lashes. Probably save you a fortune too on products that claim to help . They recommend proven products that can best assist . My eyelashes and brows totally came out on my very last chemo but grew again within about five weeks. They then fell out again three months later but grew again which is very common. Look Good feel better explain this is to do with the cycle of hair growth which is different allover the body. Hope this helps , good luck with everything X Oh and just to add they also run makeup workshops both in-person and online . In person are brilliant show you how to draw on realistic brows and makeup eyes . Highly recommended
I recently discovered the charity Cancer Hair Care. They are absolutely amazing and really knowledgeable about everything from hair regrowth to false eyelashes, to which products actually work and which ones just empty your bank account!
I have secondary breast cancer and was starting to feel a bit despondent about my thinning hair as I’m always going to be on treatment. I attended an online workshop and came away feeling as though I’d had an adrenaline boost. They really know their stuff.
Hair growth takes a while (at least on a 62 year old). My final cycle of EC-T chemo was on 26 January and by the time I renewed my passport I only had very short fuzz (thankfully they allowed me to keep my turban on). I used to have straight brown hair and now it’s pepper and salt, curly but I actually like the new look better!! Another plus is that only need to shave my legs very rarely! It did take months for other side effects to wane, especially peripheral neuropathy and bad taste, but things do improve.
Thank you so much for your replies, really appreciate it.
I have accepted the hair on my head may take a long time (and likely come in curly) but I didn’t have time before chemo to get the brows mircrobladed so hopefully they come back fast.
I will book into the course and also have a look at the charity, thank you so much . I am booked into the make up one in November.
Tilly, I am sorry you’re having to always be on treatment, it really isn’t fair this disease! But I’m glad you got a boost from the workshop.
Thanks for the advice on other side effects, they do seem to linger longer now even each cycle, fingers crossed they don’t hang around too long after the last one.
Thanks for all the messages of luck . I am just about to have cycle number 5 today.
