Hair Regrowth Following FEC/TAX

Hello Everyone

I’m sure this question has been asked so many times before but here we go anyway!

I finished FEC/TAX 6 weeks ago now and currently nearing the finish of rads, and I am just wondering how long it took for your eyelashes and brows to come through again, those ladies that have been throught the same treatment.

I have some sparse brows but nothing in the eyelash department…

Experiences please…Thanks

I finished FEC/TAX and 30 rads on 28th Nov. My hair had started to grow back just after the 1st TAX, but I still have very limited eyebrows, which is not that noticeable as I wear glasses. My eye lashes are not as long or full as they were, but look normal. I found being without eyelashes awful; hope you get some soon

Hi, i have pm’d you.
I am still waiting 3 years later.

Hi there (and hallo Pineapple)

I finished FEC/TAX in October 2007. My eyebrows and lashed came back quite quickly - maybe two months for them to be ok looking. Hair took longer. It was June 2008 before I felt able to go out without a head covering, and it is still quite short. But I have had it cut and shaped several times now. The good news is that underarm hair is still so fine and sparse that I have never reverted to shaving it.

Good luck

Thanks for your replies.

Lucky for me I have a full head of hair - I was one of the fortunate ones that the cold cap worked well for. So I am not moaning, as such, just a bit impatient to be able to slap on the old mascara again.

i went out to buy new glasses yesterday ready for return to work, and I was amazed how different glasses look without the eye hair!

I have fine downy leg hair, bit of ‘lady garden’ but never had much underarm hair. I will definitely not shave my legs unless the hair gets coarser, as it looks quite nice as it is!!!

My lashes took about 6 months and came back sparse.I still have no eyebrows or underarm hair.Legs hairy and down below patchy.I finished 4xfec and 4xtaxotere in May 2007

I finished 4fec and 4tax July 06. I used the cold cap my hair did thin but is now longer and thicker than pre BC, eyelashes have come back just not as long as before, legs and bikini line have to get waxed like mad but still filling in eyebrows and cant really see them growing back now. under arms are thinner and hardly any surgery side due to rads. hair didn’t thin at all on FEC it was the taxotere.

That’s interesting Debbie, as I lost more hair on FEC than TAX!

On FEC it shed evenly all over (I lost about 25%) but on TAX is slowed right down and I only lost it on the crown…it has all come back now and no patches are visible, i just have lots of hair at different lengths

My friend/hairdresser is coming round to get it back into some sort of style tomorrow…probably another Posh Crop if I am lucky!

My eyebrows have always been something I ignored really…never had to have them waxed being quite fair, but I long to get them back again!

Thought I’d bump this as something strange is going on with my hair.

Horace, I also finished tax (5 out of 6) in May 2007. Hair on head grew back quite quickly, still no hair under arms, thick hair below knees, hardly any eyebrows, okay down below.

BUT … the hair on my head is coming out again!!! I’m on Bondronat and Aromasin and wonder whether that might be the cause. I have definite bald spots. Anyone else experienced this?

Thanks.

Just to say that I have now hd 4 chemos - 3 fecs and 1 tax - cold cap seems to working - but I am sure my hair feels different now - softer somehow than before. I find this strange because hair is inert/dead so existing hair texture should not feel affected and yet it does…

Hello again Ladies.

I am now 11 weeks post kimo. My hair has got thick again but it feels very strange…kind of fluffy. It is growing in all different directions and is quite curly…luckily not grey!

My hair got really weird once I hit the TAX. It thinned on the crown but I kept it covered with a hairband made from scarves. I agree that the hair alread on our heads is effectively dead, so why does is change so much with the kimo?

If my hair is anything to go by, you should be ok for the rest of your treatment Bright…just be gentle with it.

If you look at my blog and the poll, you will see 20 people have taken part (one of those 20 is me)just see how many people have brow and lash problems!

Hi Pineapple

Just voted on your blog. Thanks for keeping us updated on this.

Bright…sorry should have added I have had several haircurts throughout using the cold cap and another cut at the end of kimo…something I would definitely recommend to keep the hair in some sort of shape.

I now wash it as normal (2-3 times a week) but still dont use a dryer - it takes about and hour to dry naturally so you have some idea of how much hair I have!!!

Eyebrows are now looking good and I used mascara for the first time yesterday which was a real milestone. Have had to shave my legs a couple of times but to be honest I have never been particularly hairy (body wise).

Good luck

Thanks Pheebster - Great about your using mascara. I have stopped using this on the tax - still have my lashes but expect to lose them any time now - and if I have any chance of retaining a few - I imagine best nor to use it.

you’re doing all the right stuff Bright!

I stopped eyelash curlers at start of FEC then stopped mascara just before TAX. I lost my lashes around TAX 2 and my brows too. Invest in a brow pencil (I got a cheapo Rimmel)and practice while you still have some hairs.

A good tip once your lashes go is to kohl inside the lids with a pencil around the shade of your eye colour - brings the eyes out. I still do that now and I wont wear mascara ‘full time’ for a few more weeks yet.

Keep me informed how you go…it’s so good to hear someone persevering and winning with the cold cap.
