Hair shedding timeframe

Thank you @bluesky, this was very useful. I’m finding my shedding seems to be happening gradually and is currently a lot less dramatic than I thought it would be!

I had a round of EC at the beginning of March and although I did the cold cap (which i found totally manageable) I lost a lot of hair about 2-3 weeks after. My scalp also felt sore and itchy as the hair came out. I did not shave and I just about have enough hairvleft to feel like me although I do sometimes wear a wig to give me great hair days again.

I was worried about not looking or feeling like me especially as I have young kids and need to show up on the school run etc. I did have very long hair but I got it cut shortr to shoulder length before chemo to make it easier to manage. I chose a lovely wig that is amazing quality and makes me look like my sister. I didn’t think I’d like it but it’s good to have in the just in case armour cupboard like when you put on a full face of make up. I also bought loads of little hat things and some nice headscarves off amazon so pretty cheap. I went down the ethnic route so there is loads of choice when you start looking.i also involved my kids loads and talked to them about it along the way so they’re now totally not fussed by how I look or that my hair style changes from day to day.

Good luck with it all and just do what makes you feel like you, and brings you joy.

Hiya. I didn’t cold cap either and my hair lasted remarkably well on EC. It started falling out at the 3 week mark just before my next treatment. My friend gave me a buzz cut at 2 weeks just in case, I have to say I loved it short and may never go back! One thing I found really useful was a lint roller. I used it on my head, pillow and clothes during the day as my little short hairs were everywhere. I’m now in my 5 round of paclitaxel and weirdly still have some hair on my head but everywhere else has gone. Still have eyebrows and eyelashes although thinner. Good look with your treatment x

I’ve just had my 1st chemo session.

Bought another hat on my way home - already have several, and scarves.

Originally wanted wigs, but my hot flushes are awful!

It’s presently annoying the heck out of me, and my scissors are by the mirror. Quite liberating knowing it doesn’t matter if you mess it up!

Good luck in whatever you choose.

That’s amazing you retained some brows and lashes, Mine are pretty fine anyway so I don’t think I’ll be that lucky, but happy to keep a sliver of hope!

@lil56 Aah, thank you so much :two_hearts: I do love the headwear, I have to say … something that I am very much embracing  … but then I’ve had short, pixie-style hair since I was 15 (I’m 51 now), so from reading all the ladies chat about hair on this forum … I feel that whilst I have had tears about losing my hair, I’m maybe more accepting and ok with it because my hair is short … I’ve not had to see beautiful long hair coming out of which I can totally understand how traumatic that must be … my loss was more like consistent almost-like even shedding leaving me with a halo of hair :joy: … I then buzz-cut it and again, I think because I’ve always had short hair … it doesn’t bother me … I wouldn’t go out without a head-wrap outside though! It’s such a personal thing, isn’t it :two_hearts:

Yeah I had short hair but with a bright pink quiff on top which if I may say so myself was a bit iconic. I’m unlikely ever to be able to have that again, so my tears were potentially because I was saying goodbye to the look that defined me. Never say never though, I might be able to recreate the look provided the ship hasn’t sailed before my scalp can tolerate bleach again.

@Jaygo I love it, re: iconic :sparkling_heart: … my hair was always referred to as ‘Lego-hair’ because it never moved what with all the crap I’d style it with!! :joy: I’ve always dyed mine red, so that’s going to be a weird thing when it grows back … seeing the full-on grey because I never give it chance to show usually … I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with the new hair when it grows Jaygo xxx
