Hard lump

I had a double mastectomy (no reconstruction) at the end of November 2025. My scars have healed and I’ve had fluid drained twice. Yesterday I felt a change in my left side and have a large hard lump above my scar, in the front of my chest. I’m going to contact my ANP team on Monday but I’m reaching out to see if anyone has experienced this.

Hi @frannie1

I’m in a similar situation. I had my second single mastectomy at the end of July 2025 and also feel a hard lump on my left side about an inch above the scar. I’ve been back to my team and had an ultrasound but it doesn’t show anything except scar tissue. I’m not convinced still but I keep an eye on it and if it feels any different I will go straight back.

I hope your team can get you an ultrasound and give you some answers or peace of mind soon! I’d be interested to hear what they decide it is if you don’t mind updating when you get chance.:smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I was worried having lumps too. I suffered a seroma following my mastectomy. I had this aspirated twice but am left with hard lumps. I was told by my breast nurse this is where the liquid of the seroma has turned to jelly and will eventually be dissolved by the body. Of course, no one can put a timeline of how long it will take. Fortunately they have not got any bigger.

Hi

I had symmetry surgery to balance out breast size post my lumpectomy and I now have a hard lump in the reduced breast that my surgeon told me is fat necrosis - which is where tissue dies due to lack of blood supply. I’m told it’s not uncommon post surgery and should break down over time. It’s somewhat disconcerting to feel the lump but it’s nothing sinister x
