Hi, I had surgery 4 days ago so possibly this is too early to ask for advice! I had 2 lymph nodes removed at the time of the WLE, and under the lymph nodes dressing the area has gone very hard and swollen. I knew it would be painful after surgery but this feels abnormally so! I don’t see redness so I’m presuming this is a good sign? I’m sure I’m just being a little over cautious, but since it’s Easter and I can’t get in touch with anyone for advice I thought I’d try all of you for reassurance! I see the surgeon again on Thursday. Thanks! X
Vonne
It is possible you have a seroma, which is build up of fluid, I had one and it dissipated over several weeks, but you could always give the hospital where you had your op a call and see if there is anyone there who could give you some advice.

Thanks Helena, that sounds good that it might be a serona which could just dissipate. Ill hold off from becoming too concerned and it might possibly go down a bit of its own accord before seeing the surgeon again. My local surgery is closed for Easter so I tried the hospital ward who had told me to call them if there was a problem, however the only doctor on call wasn’t trained in breast cancer so didn’t know about it. NHS 24 in Scotland I gave up on…no reply…and my local hospital is too far away to turn up and sit in A&E for a few hours in when it’s not urgent!
I figured if anyone might know and reassure me it would be on here!
Thanks for all your other help too Helena, I appreciate it more than you can know. Everyone has been so good.
I had lymph nodes removed for sentinel biopsy on 5th March. I had a drain in for 2 weeks, but it still felt like I had an orange under my arm for a while. One month on it’s really gone down. Slight lump there but not much really, so it should settle down, Vonne.
Over this last week though a long indented line appeared down the side of my breast along, almost, to the nipple. It is indented and clearly visible. Then this weekend, at the end of the line near the nipple, a large purpura appeared over night. Panic!! Haven’t been able to contact anyone, because of the bank holiday, but I’m calmer now as I think it’s possibly where the line of the drain was and the bruising is right at the end of it. I’ll check it out with BC nurses tomorrow, but think it’s just a bit if delayed reaction after drain removal.
