Has anyone been to Penny Brohn Course ?

I am booked to go on a two day residential course at Penny Brohn in July, and wonder if anyone else has been, and how they found it. I already go to the Bluebells Support Group at The Harry Edwards Healing Sanctuary every week, and find the healing and various therapies (like reflexology) really uplifting and helpful, but I would also like to know more about diet and relaxation etc.

Hi lemongrove,
I went two years ago after my primary diagnosis - it was wonderful!! I could fill the page with highlights, from the food to the library!! I want to go back but am torn as need to be close-by family after my receint secondary diagnosis. It is a great experience nd now can be used at no cost, amazing!!!

I went last October for the three day course and highly recommend it. I loved all the relaxation techniques, the talk from one of the founders was inspiring, and the food is fabulous. Some aspects appealed less, but it is a very safe place to discuss some very personal issues. Our group was lovely - mainly breast cancer patients, and about half and half primary and secondary. It is very much a “taster” course though with a little of everything. I think you’ll really enjoy it.

Hi

I went with a group of ladies from this forum a couple of months ago. The staff were very dedicated and the atmosphere was very peaceful. I still use some of the relaxation techniques they used and I know others were v interested in the food aspect. We went on the open prog which was a taster course that had more free time, but if you phone them they can discuss what might be appropriate for you. We met some lovely women with other cancers and still keep in touch.

I went with deb. I feared itmight be a bit touchy/feely for me, and a bit too strident in itsdiet approach but it wasnt and i thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff are non judgemental and happy for you to take whatever you want from it, rather than forcing an alternative viewpoint. My inner sceptic had nothing really to moan about, though i did take my own chocolate!

Sadie, why not take a family member with you? A lobely lady on our course was there with her equally lovely sister. Both really enjoyed it.

Hi

The courses sounds really interesting, which one are you going? I know they specialise in food nutrition etc…I would like to attend some sort of spiritual, nutritional and advisory themed seminar.

I am feeling so much better today had good nights sleep and not tired!!! Having herceptin, but that’s fine I like chatting to the nurses and u get a cup of tea and some sandwiches!!! I have my priorities in order!!

Hi Mackers, I’m going on the two day one at the beginning of July. Apparently they also offer a three day one, but they tell me they now expect a person to have done the two day one first.
It would be nice to meet you, if you go.

Hi Lemongrove

Thanks for the information I will look into it… May do me some good to meet other people in the same situation and to learn some new things.

Tnx again
